Well can't speak for you but I see plenty of purpose picking up a Cy Young, MVPs and an MVP candidate. Doesn't bother me at all what it looks like and I'm enjoying spending the days with my dad. I bet cursive gave the print folks hell when it came around too.

There ya go! Couldn't have said it better my self! Such a rush when your *idol* grabs the ball, poster, whatever and signs it...I remember '91 at Fenway...I was able to get a TON of autos....best rush of my life!!

Rangers camp was really nice. The most accessible camp I've ever been to in Arizona or Florida. The players walk side by side with the fans between fields. We got Yu Darvish and Shin Soo Choo. I also got super prospect Rougned Odor. I'll spare you the horror of Choo and Odor but can't resist posting the Darvish.

I was back at Dodger camp today too. Did pretty well. I got another nice Donnie.

Hanley Ramirez

Adrian Gonzalez was mad at me about something so he side paneled and sharpied me.

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...psm4ryhq9a.jpg

Then I walked over to White Sox camp and got young gun Chris Sale

Tomorrow is our last day. We're going to be at Reds camp hoping for Joey Votto.

Mattingly's signature has really deteriorated.

Oh, and you should do something about those cuticles. :D

packs 02-21-2014 06:58 PM

Well he's only spending 3 seconds signing something for about a hundred people so it's not going to look like it does at the shows.

You know a good nail man in Phoenix?

I have a really nice 'Mike Rogodzinski' autograph - I have to admit, it was irritating to watch so many stars walk by while Mr. Rogodzinski slowly and meticulously signed his frigging gargantuanormous last name.

Jesus Christ! What the hell are those supposed to be?

packs 02-21-2014 08:38 PM

I believe they are the signatures of players. But it could be a coded message too.

Michael B 02-21-2014 09:42 PM

I believe he went to the local elementary school where he passed out baseballs and asked the children to draw pictures of the things they love.

Picture one was done by Melissa - 'This is my family, Daddy, Mommy and my brother Jimmy'.

Picture two was done by Tommy - 'This is my dog Petey. We do everything together'.

Did I win? Did I win?!!!!

Oh, I'm so sorry, I thought this was a contest: Guess what is on these baseballs..........

Great sigs Packs, ugly or not, it's great to get them in person and for free. Takes me back to my 2 childhood spring training trips.. still have the 15-20 sigs I got there. Agree, with others though, moderns sigs have gone downhill... people just don't hand write anymore.

My most recent signed card just arrived today..

It is amazing how bad the signatures of current players are. I'll stick to vintage.

7nohitter 02-22-2014 06:00 AM

Why do you think Adrian Gonzalez was angry with you? Were you heckling him?

packs 02-22-2014 08:19 AM

No what happened was I was walking around and he happened to start making his way over to sign so I stopped and walked over. Apparently he thought I cut a line, which I guess theoretically I did but there are always people standing around and who knows if they're waiting for anything.

You guys really crack me up though. I'm collecting perennial all stars, Cy Youngs and MVP players and you're focused on aesthetics. If I cared about aesthetics I'd never buy anything with Honus Wagner's mug on it. Not to mention these players are signing right in front of me on the ballfield. Which is an experience you can't get at a show or collecting the deceased.

Now THAT is funny!
Thanks for clearing up the AGone thing...I'm surprised he didn't just refuse if he thought you had cut a line.

You're right, you are amassing some incredible auto's...such a rush getting them in person (for me, not for the current guys cuz most of them are younger than me, but the guys from the 80's)

Then have your picture taken with them. Because in a few years you won't have the slightest idea which autograph is which. (Honus may not have been pretty, but he is recognizable. And he knew how to write his name.)

packs 02-22-2014 08:44 AM

I don't know what it is you're trying to prove but think about how many times you've posted something you collect and I asked why bother.

Besides you get to know autographs the same way you get to know card sets. No T206 says T206.

You must somehow get Konstantinov's name added.

There were no better, nor will there ever be any better games then when the Red Wings played the Avalanche in the mid to late 90's. Better than any sports rivalry EVER!!!!!

sebie43 02-22-2014 03:51 PM

Thanks Paul, I would really like to collect all of those signatures. And I agree that rivalry was amazing, every game was electric and anything could happen.
In my opinion best rivalry ever ,Im glad its not just a hometown bias.

Finished up the week at Reds camp today and did very well. Reds
camp was really tough and not the most fan friendly.

Here's speedster Billy Hamilton. Hope he steals 200 bases this year.

All Star Brandon Phillips

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...pss5n053wc.jpg

And 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskyjmyvtc.jpg

All in all over the past week I got 1 HOFer (Koufax!), 2 Cy Youngs, 4 MVPs, 12 All Stars, the number 1 second base prospect in Rougned Odor and 3 more top prospects in Taijuan Walker, Hamilton and Joc Pederson.

I've always been a Penguins fan since Battleship Kelly in the 70's, who played for both (best nickname ever by the way). And my son was named after Jagr. The wife wouldn't let me do Jaromir, which was fine, but I had a workaround in mind and the boy's first 2 letters are JA and 1st two of the last name GR, so I got it in there.

Anyhow......I hated the Red Wings, still do. I didn't care for Colorado either, but loved Patrick Roy. So leaned toward Colorado very very slightly, but rooted for Detroit in the playoffs who ever they played against just so they could beat them and eventually face Colorado.

Just the most intense games ever, amazing talent on both sides, and the fights and bad blood were things of beauty.

Not to mention Bob "Probation" Probert playing on both the Wings and the Hawks.

Ah, those were the days.

Wow. An autograph that you can actually read. The inscription thing has worked out for me as well. You can't go wrong with having John for a first name.

Here is one I bet nobody else has. Tiger great Denny Mclain had gastric bypass surgery and has lost over 100 pounds. He was signing at a local card show that had a charity auction afterwards. Denny signed and donated his fat clothes to the auction. This included a shirt, pants and underwear. I walked away with the pants, but got outbid on the true gem of the auction.

esiason14 02-22-2014 09:34 PM

Haha. That's pretty cool.

Scott Garner 02-23-2014 03:21 AM

Eric,
That's awesome!

Random thought: What the hell do you do with the Denny McLain underwear anyway?
There is no way you would ever display that bad boy, shizzstains and all...

To be honest, if you hadn't told me that that picture was Denny McLain, I never would have guessed. What a change in his appearance!

The last time I saw him was at a paid signing five years ago. Denny was sweating profusely just sitting there, and it wasn't even hot. I remember thinking at the time that his health was in such a bad place that he likely wouldn't live much longer. It's good that he has taken a positive step in turning his weight issue around.
I wonder if he still guzzles pop by the gallon?

I was bidding on the underwear to make them a gag gift for my father-in-law's birthday. I didn't ask him personally, but I read that he has stopped drinking pop.

Well, it will be hard to outdo the Denny McLain tighty whities...

Somewhat baseball related... happy to add this Jimmy Stewart signed ball to my collection.

Bought a 1939 Bisons team-signed ball, not really sure why, but was very happy to find out it contained an auto of Hank Nowak. Nowak never made the majors, he was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945.
Also on the ball is Jim Oglesby, who committed suicide in 1950.

Seller claims early 1990s, which matches signature style and Bobby Brown ball. So Stewart would have been about 80.

I typically take seller claims with a grain of salt, but all of his offerings -- which included a number of baseball player and entertainment celebrity signed baseballs -- looked legit, so I would take him at his word.

Yes, I have a ton more, not of those 4, but a ton of others. My most recent list is on CU Forums in the B/S/T section, just do a search for threads by thenavarro and you'll find it. I haven't updated it yet to reflect sales from the last couple of weeks, but it's relatively current. If you send me a message, I'll eventually get back to you, I'm not the fastest to return messages these days due to both a full time job and law school, however, I'll eventually get around to it. Had a class cancelled tonight, so I'm spending some rare midweek time on here, but about to go do a 90 minute practice exam for the hell of it.

Esiason is a good buyer. Good communication, fast payment, and nice guy. Esiason, your cards will go out tomorrow. Enjoy my friend.

My wife is a lawyer and all 3 of my bro in laws and my only sister have JDs.. knowing what I know from them, I feel for ya. No worries on slow response, I can be pretty bad myself. I'll take a look over on CU and shoot you a message if anything peaks my interest.

Man, that photo of Denny McLain makes me feel really old!

Here's my latest autograph pick-up. When I was 8 or 9 I went to a charity golf event, hoping to meet my favorite player - Don Meredith. Oddly, Meredith was a no-show (but Lee Roy Jordan, another of my favorites, was there, so it was still great). Won this Meredith-signed baseball, and I'm hoping to some day get Lee Roy Jordan to sign it as well - they were roommates while with the Cowboys.
