It is one amazing place.

Wow. We are currently watching the HBO 'John Adams' mini-series - it does a great job of giving the guys like Jefferson personalities. Lots of time spent on Jefferson and his writing of the Declaration of Independence.

Great, great signature to have.

Does the Adams mini-series address their drinking habits? I was reading a fun article today about how much booze guys like Jefferson, Washington, and Adams used to drink daily. It said Jefferson spent something like 10 percent of his entire Presidential income on wine alone. And George Washington would need to switch out his teeth when they became too stained with brandy and wine during parties. They sounded a lot more fun to be around than modern politicians.

This may not be the most valuable item posted here, but it has a lot of value to my wife. I just found this on ebay and it was being sold for the letterhead. This is a letter written by her great-great-grandfather George Washington Wells (1846-1912). He was one of the co-founders of American Optical Company in 1869. He held many patents in the field of optometry. He had three sons who were very serious collectors. The sons built Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA which highlights many of their collections. Her father and brother are the III and IV namesakes of one of the sons. One of the largest wooden ships ever built, a 6 masted coastal schooner was named after George W. Wells. It was launched in 1900 and ran aground off of Ocracoke Island, N.C. in 1913.
