What do you collect?

Posted By: Charlie O'Neal
My t206 niche set is made up as follows:

all HOF cards (minus plank)
all Southern League

The rest are cards that I think look cool with the exception of a couple of well known players.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Complete sets from 1888 to 1967 of major issues.
I do not buy them complete, I really enjoy the
challenge of putting them together.
It is also easier on my pocketbook to spread out
the cost. Fortunately, most of my sets have been
completed when these cards were more affordable.

My favorites, though, are:

N162 Goodwin Champions (wrote article in VCBC)
T206
1933 Goudey
1941 Play Ball
1949 Leaf
1949 Bowman (wrote articles in 1983 BB Cds Mag & VCBC)
1949 Bowman PCL (co-authored with Mark Macrae in VCBC)
1952 Bowman FB - Large set (wrote article in 1984 SCD)
1953 Bowman (wrote article in 1985 BB Cds Mag - Krause)

What do you collect?

Posted By: Cat
What I say I collect and what I collect are two different things. My standard answer is: I collect rookies or the most siginificant card of all players voted in to the BB HOF by the baseball writers. This being said I have four Joe Jackson cards, Pete Rose's rookie, Roger Maris' rookie, and a whole host of players that were actually elected into the HOF by the veterans committee, including: Cap Anson, Monte Ward, Tim Keefe, and Charles Comiskey. I wanted an Allen & Ginter card and an Old Judge card, hence the players elected via the veterans committee. So in the end I have mostly rookie cards and significant cards of players elected to the HOF by the baseball writers, but stretch this definition so that I have different variations of cards as well as players that perhaps "should be" in the HOF as well as a few players that were important to me in my childhood following of the game (I have been asked before: What the heck is a Dave Kingman rookie card doing in your collection?).

What I collect makes sense to me, but probably no one else.

What do you collect?

Posted By: Chad
In any set from any country, especially the guys without American issued cards. But I don't have the will power to resist other stuff so I pick up T cards now and then, the V100 set, and lately I've been picking up strip cards when I think I found a good deal. I tend to work on more affordable sets as i just don't have the patience to save up for high end cards. That and the "common" guys in a lot of sets are interesting to me. I was pretty excited to win V100's of Jesse Barnes and George Cutshaw, for example. Yep, I'm that big a geek about this.

--Chad

Posted By: Scott Thompson
I collect low grade T206's and am stuck at 452 at the present time. I will probably "hold" for a couple of years until I go back to work and then start on the rest of the "obtainable" cards. Barring a winning lottery ticket, I'll never have a Wagner (or a Plank, or any of the other big cards).

I freely admit my collection is inferior to nearly every other collection on this board. I have no shame of my collection and have no jealousy towards those with superior ones. (OK...maybe I’m a little jealous, but not in a bad way!)

Scott
