This 1947 version of the team RPPC is even tougher to find than the 1946 version, which is nearly impossible. I have seen three examples of the 1946 Peoria Red Wings RPPC become available over the past few years (I bought two of them). This was the first 1947 team RPPC that I have ever seen. Had no idea it even existed.

Includes Richard "King Tut" King (front row, first player on left), Alex Radcliffe (top row, fourth player from left) & McKinley "Bunny" Downs (pictured far right in suit)

"To Bob from Henry L. Merchant" & "Cin & Ind Clowns" written in the hand of Clowns left fielder Henry Lewis "Speed" Merchant

I think Merchant is the player on the far right of the second row (hands on knees) but I don't know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've not seen any others and online all I could find were two auctions (REA and Ryan's) for the baseball version. I don't know if those Marines are USMC (Gitmo perhaps) or Cuban.

Regardless, it is an ad for a tobacco card set, which definitely rocks IMHO.

Great find Adam and Jeff. Slowly but surely I'm getting this Sporting Life set near to completion. Would love to find another Detroit team to go along with this St. Louis one.

Detroit will set you back a few sheckels..... Unlike this one, where the umpire is dressed up and rather suave :)

...U.S.S Pennsylvania vs. U.S.S Arizona......the main field at Gitmo , 1919....very nice stadium ( the officers had shade ) ; the other field was known simply as "field number two" and was not nearly so grand as this. Baseball was a big deal to the navy.....the name is "- Renfro-" I don't know if that is the sailor or the photographer's name. The reverse is un-used , a standard postcard back ( AZO )

Need some help on this one. This belonged to Zach Wheat. Was in a bunch of his stuff from his early playing days. Does anybody recognize anyone on this card? I know Wheat isn't but wonder if these could be teammates of his.

This one has probably been posted here before, but in addition to the great image of Cy, I really like the handwritten message on the back of this particular postcard. Referring to Cy Young Day, which was August 13, 1908 (the postmark is August 14), the writer states: "...took in the game for Cy Young yesterday. The game was fine but the fun and interesting part came before the game and the presentations to Cy. You probably read the accounts in the papers. The Boston Americans are certainly playing great ball these days."

Here is an RPPC with the image used to create the T206 Roy Ellam card. I have only seen one other copy and that one is missing a corner.

Interesting tid-bit about this card. The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, The Sports Collector's Bible, and Sports Postcard Price Guide all list 17 cards in the 1907 Dietsche set. The Dietsche set is actually 15 cards (16 with Cobb "fielding"). So what is this 17th card then??? It was believed to be a dual-player card of Schaefer & O'Leary. The problem is that no one has ever seen this Dietsche card. It is now believed that the Schaefer/O'Leary Dietsche never existed, but was actually that Wolverine card that was confused by early collectors to be from the Dietsche set.
That Cy Young is awesome by the way.

The Otsego Baseball Team, owned by a millionaire Tom Stephens, went on to win the state championship in Ypsilanti. A member of that squad was Ty Cobb, the "Georgia Peach," and the most feared professional player who ever played Major League baseball for the Detroit Tigers.

Rumors have it that Cobb only played in one ball game for the Otsegos but he was paid a hefty sum of $1,000 for the game. At that time Cobb drew a salary of only $2,250 with the Tigers, so his trip to Gaylord was worth it.

Other major league players who played once in awhile for their team was Killian (kneeling next to manager), Donlin (first row on left), and Goulait (7th player back row). Mullin, Killian, and Bowerman have been known to play with the team at times to as the millionaire lumberman didn't like losing.

These games occurred between 1912-1914. Lapeer was one of the opposing teams they faced, in many rivalry series. Rumorville has it that Walter Johnson was offered 1500.00 to pitch in the final game, but he did not play.

It was common for pro players to be paid money to play in small hometown games. If not for hometown newspaper articles or photos, many of these stories would be lost in time. This is a RPPC which I recently acquired from a longtime board member who decided to pass the torch after 37 years of owning it which I'm thankful for.

Would love to find a Lapeer RPPC to go along with this one.

Thanks guys as I think these RPPCs don't get the love they deserve. Here is another one. I used the great write up that Brockleman Auctions did on it.

The featured item in this lot is RPPC of a composite photograph of the 1916 Colonial Baseball Club of New Haven, Connecticut. Featured at the top center of the composite is Ty Cobb, who joined the team in August of 1916. Later in the season, this semi-pro team would play both of the League Champions, defeating Brooklyn 4 to 1 on Sept 10, 1916 and tying the Boston Red Sox 3 to 3 on October 15, 1916(a game in which Babe Ruth pitched). At this time in his career Cobb was playing first base and had eight assist's in the game versus the Red Sox! During the course of the 1916 season, the Colonials, made up mostly of college stars player several of the American and National League teams.

Now that we have given a brief history of Cobb and the Colonials, it's time to take a look at the rarity of the piece. Longtime collector and auctioneer Lew Lipset has only seen and offered two of these in his long time in the hobby. An internet search revealed no others of this composite being offered for sale or displayed online. Perhaps there are others, but at this time, only two can be confirmed! The one offered here is from his 2008 Auction, where it was sold with the companion postcard of the game played Sept 10, 1916 against the Brooklyn club.

John, I saw that Wagner vignette at auction and thought it was fantastic. I don't know much about it, but I love the image. And I can just tell it's one of those cards that looks even better in-hand. I love it. Congrats.

I liked the look of the PC and the image. of course Honus is one of my favorites so that doesn’t hurt
