1982 Topps Blackless
Not Blackless completely, but def on its way. Here’s a blackless-ing (as some clever ebay sellers call them) sheet of the highly sought after C-sheet cards. Think I should keep intact or chop it up and piece out?

Now I would only cut up if you know what you are doing and with proper equipment. I have cut up a lot of sheets and every card was exactly the same size when finished. I would never do a hack job om something like that, that would be horrible. |
Great find! Keep as a sheet imo...
Is it faded? It looks like a lot of the other colors are losing color too. Maybe just my bad eyes. |
Quote:
It does have that appearance but no, not faded. It appears they were low on ink during this sheet print for other colors as well as certain small areas on some cards are missing ink. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Curious if there are Blackless cards that have other colors missing full coverage. I plan on looking through mine... |

PWCC new auction.
I find it hard to believe that PWCC and other auction companies can’t see BLACK ink. In a new slab too. Come on PSA do better. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...663200ff41.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c8433451f9.jpg |
Like the 62 green tints or 68 Milton Bradleys I think unless graders follow particular odd variations closely themselves they would have a hard time telling one from the other without examples of both in hand via the cards themselves or contrasting scans.

Another mislabel. PSA graders should have a sticky note... Black on the front = Not Blackless :) |

Coolest thing I’ve seen in a long long time. You may have inadvertently started a new trend that if continues will make blackless cards with no signature increasingly more scarce. I mean, there’s one less Henderson out there now and he was already tough! You have me considering doing this with my second Dodgers team set (I am a few cards shy of having a graded and raw team set). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I will keep my eyes open on Yeager for you. I failed to also mention that I think it was outstanding that you chose to use green ink to differentiate it from the original black facsimile. If I do end up attempting to obtain dodger signatures I will likely go with a blue fine tip sharpie with this in mind.

Wondering if anyone knows of this as being a true variation (2nd p in "Topps" filled in) or perhaps if its just a false image caused by the software processing the scanned image? Saw this on a current Ebay auction.
Apologies on the "Non Blackless" variation question here in this great thread but imagine this represents the meeting of the greatest worldwide experts on 1982 Topps baseball. https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...c7n0eb1rob.png |
Have seen other cards where such a letter has a filled in area, one was on a Koufax card. But had not seen such a defect on this card before
Is it a one time print defect, a recurring print defect, an early defect that was discovered and corrected ? My guess is a one time or very scarce recurring print defect I am not a graded collector but wonder if such a print defect on a card should affect the grading. I guess not given the 10. |
I think every time one of those showed up it turned out to be the scanner setting automatically filled in the small gap in the scan and wasn’t actually on the card.

Wtb- Still on search of #464 Juan Bonilla Blackless and #564 Doug Decinces-found,Thanks Mike!! . #477 steve yeager Blackless will be consider too due i have one with little gray signature, thanks for attention.

Not mine, but the owner shared with me in a Henderson group PM.
Has to be one of the best Blackless “finds”. Wow. Keep your eyes open on eBay I guess! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b68ebb5fd4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1629907ba1.jpg |

Cliff --I think for forgiveness you would have to give it back :).
It has been awhile but I seem to recall that in putting my set together the Ryan, Henderson and Morris were the ones that set me back the most |
Al, I agree Henderson, Morris, and Ryan are higher value Blackless. The Henderson and Morris probably due to scarcity and Ryan for player collectors.
IMO the Henderson is nuts because it is a scarce C sheet and a player collector favorite. Paid $20.50 and he said he was offered 3k the next week. He did not accept. I know I would not accept that for mine either :) Cliff, I can't imagine being that seller and finding out what he sold. |
That's incredible, a Henderson's Blackless for that price, was the deal of entire life. I had the Good Luck to found Ryan and Morris in Blackless version. Other hard is Hector Cruz without Print Flaw.

ben - do you know how much the person who won the auction put in for his max bid? curious how high they would've been willing to go. |

Apparently Beckett doesn’t recognize Blackless… still can’t believe this was closed at eBay auction for under $20! :)

a pair of wrong labeled "Blackless" by PSA Again....
|
wow...That should be embarrassing for PSA. Why would they slab it Blackless when there is clearly Black ink??? Maybe some of the new graders.
|
Very embarrassing for PSA, think in the step of research they can note the difference between regular and Blackless. Is incredible lot of regular cards with Blackless designation.

A lesson in why I shouldn’t use my phone to purchase stuff on eBay.
“Blacklessing” instead of true Blackless. I thought I was upgrading… Oh well. At least I still have the lower graded true Blackless :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...13fba157de.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9fc0fd419d.jpg |
On the bright side, the set can be finished in Blacklessing… or gray ghosts… as well as Blackless :)
|
...makes me want to start collecting '82 Blackless. I have a few, but picked them up by accident
|
Al - I think i will leave collecting the blacklessing gray ghost set to you :)
Zach - Just do it! There are a few that will be tough to pry out of other folks' collections. |

My 1982 Topps Blackless Dodgers team set.
I am interested in another Dave Lopes In Action #741 if anyone has one or knows who I can ask. I have duplicates of some of these including a C-sheet Reuss to trade to obtain one if necessary. Thanks! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b88c13aa1f.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Anyone on here purchase the Ozzie Smith on eBay listing?
Great card. Looked to me like it may be sheet cut.

Won a major award! :)

Who will be the first to spot the error in the description :)
|
Congrats Ben! Also, backless is not 100% accurate.
|
Congrats Ben. Do you think it is referred to as Regional because of the reputed limited distribution of packs with them. When I was working on my set most of the sellers were from NY area or Michigan. These were errors in regular production cards but I do not think even Topps test sets with very limited distribution are referred to as Regional
|
Congrats, that's an awesome one to get recognized on!
|
so cool, congrats. maybe you can work on the 'backless' set now as well.
|
Congrats Ben. Do you feel that there are less than 100 of each blackless card in the set?

John - you are right! Good eye.
Al - Honestly, i think they just combined two distinct awards into one. Last year, there were two separate categories and more categories overall. Last year there were 28 and this year there are 15. It definitely fits more in the oddball category. Justin - I agree, thanks! Hockey - Thanks Zach - I think there are less than 100 unless there are 75 people that hoard their blackless cards...could be! Some C sheet cards I have not seen for sale in the past 6 years. Christian - Thanks man. Good luck with your set too! I was lucky and hit the jackpot with a full set. There are some other full sets out there, so you never know :) |

Any enlightenment on what this is would be appreciated! Standard blueless, or something else? Will provide better photos later this week. Thanks!

Magenta progressive proof. I would venture a guess it is most likely blank backed? |
See post 2 in thread for something similar… Blueless 😊

It is blueless. |
Thanks to both of you. I'll be posting better photos today or early next week.
Any realistic ideas of value for commons? There is precious little info online for these. Apparently there may only be 1-2 copies of each known card extant? |

Better photos.
|
Billy---when you say only 1 or 2 copies you are referring to the blueless rather than blackless, right ? I picked the few blueless examples I have when putting together my blackless set. Don't know how many exist but likely not many.
With the blackless there were enough out there you could try to build a set and when they got listed in SCD and recognized by PSA the competition for them in the hobby drove up prices. I think the blueless lack the hobby recognition to have great value other than among oddity or specific player collectors. Others may think differently. |
