Age

33 with a wife and a 2.5 month old daughter. My daughter seems to like the cards when I hold them in front of her, but I wonder if it's too early to tell whether she'll want to collect.

Once I was older and had money to spend, and eBay as a market place, I knew exactly what I wanted after all those years of dreaming.

Spot on!

47 on Nov. 23rd. Still remember my mom buying me '72 packs at age 5. I still get that feeling sometimes when I look at those cards....

Very nice family!
Who is inheriting your world class collection?

I put my age in a while ago, but see that the thread has moved to the offspring.

I am 31 and have three children, with one just announced as on the way due to be here July 8th. My oldest is 3 with her birthday in Septemeber. So for a couple of months we will have 4 children under the age of 4.

Yet somehow I still seem to have a baseball collection as of now. This last week I started cleaning out the remains of my childhood collection from my parent's house (80-2000s cards) and the 3 year old has been wanting to go through the boxes and look at them. She also loves to look through auction catalogs when they come in the mail. She yells at me if I look at it before or without her "My baseball book, you share!" There are several torn catalogs that have made their way into their toys because they are loved very well by her. On top of that when given the choice of a baseball card show or the zoo two weeks ago she chose the zoo, but as we left the zoo she asked "can we look at cards now?" I tried to explain we only had time for one and she was not happy, but told her we could look at some when we got home which satisfied her.

My youngest is 10 months old, but when he was 3 months old my wife started giving up a baseball card when ever he would cry and once he had it he would stop crying (when she told me this it made my day) so for a while she had it as part of her diaper bag arsenal to cary around a baseball card "just in case".

So I feel I have done my part to keep the collecting going, but they are too young to know if it will stick.:)

I'm 41.5 with three beautiful, athletic softball playing daughters (12, 12 & 9). They love the game and seem genuinely interested in the hobby. They LOVE coming with me to meet players and get autographs and they are getting the hang of asking for foul balls at any games we go to. I think they appreciate how much the hobby and the game mean to me so they are pretty open minded. I can't tell you how cool it is to be able to play catch with your daughters and not be afraid to hum a throw in there knowing they will catch it...and having to pay attention because they will hum the return throw right back. I'm a lucky guy...

Shown...Lily (12), Emma (12) and Sophie (9)...

From the looks of the poll it seems our membership age is in the low 40s on average. That means a lot of us are above average!! Thanks to everyone who voted. It's hard to get 500 people to do anything :).

DHogan 11-15-2013 09:15 PM

I'm 56. I feel a lot order than that most days. Most days my wife tells me I don't act 56. :p

Hankphenom 11-15-2013 09:46 PM

So much for the demise of the hobby!

Say Leon, first of all, thank you for this space. I don't often post, but I visit frequently.

One little thing: next time, how would it be to keep the categories consistent? The 10-20 and 61-70 groupings break the pattern. In that there are quite a few in the latter group (including me), it would make for a clearer picture.

Thanks again, and have a good day.

I only had a max of 10 categories to work with. I don't think there could have been a perfect scenario so set them up the way they are. Had I had a few more categories, as options, it would have been more precise. But 10 is 10, so I did what I thought made the most sense.

35 and 52 months. No kids. The only collection I want to leave my kids if I ever have any are several buildings in New York. I have 2 houses and treat them like they're my kids and hope to expand the family 100-fold in the next few years if I play my "cards" right.

RedlegsFan 11-21-2013 12:55 AM
