This has probably been asked here several times but has anyone ever taken a poll on Net54's members single favorite Topps Baseball Issue? My vote 1967.

My vote goes to the 1953 set.....

I love the 1956 and 1960 sets. Great colors on both!
It's 1956 for me.
1956 for me.
1959. '57s would be close behind.

Seriously, I thought the 1983 was a very good effort.
By decade: 1956 1961, but only if they are clean 1977 1983 |
Early returns:
1954 - 3 1956 - 2 1953, 1955, 1959 an 1967 - 1 each Note: If you submitted 2 favorites your votes don't count. |
I really like 1956, but I would not give up my 1967's
1957 Great background photos of classic stadiums
1967 close second. Clean, uncluttered look, great checklist, challenging high numbers to chase. |
It's interesting that out of the first sixteen responses no one has mentioned the supposed post-war Holy Grail, 1952 Topps.
It would be hard for me to choose just one set but if I were pressed I'd probably have to go with 1953 Topps. I'd also give props to Topps for the 1958, '59, '60, '62, '63 and '71 designs as well. |
1957
I would vote for 1955. I love the colors.
1956, 1971, 1986 (seriously)
'55 Would get my vote. Love the Koufax / Clemente rookies
UPdate:
1954, 55, 56 - 3 each 1953, 57 - 2 each 1959 and 1967 - 1 each Ignoring those of you that can't make a decision on a single issue. Come'on take a stand. |

1955

Wow
Can't believe I'm the first to say 1952.

If I had to choose one of my two, it would be '56.
I hope that counts now. |
1953 gets my vote
1956 followed by 1957.
1967
1952, followed by either 1956 or 1954.
Another vote for '56.
1959 Bazooka
favorite "mainstream" set 1960 Runner Ups 1978- Love the backs with the game on them 1959- I really like this set, but the Campanella card I find to be depressing/prevents me from wanting to collect the set. |
I'll go 1971 topps.
1957. I also like the '55 Bowmans.
1955
1961, since that's the one I'm currently working on.
I'd have to go with 1956, 1952, and 1954. I'm sorry, but whoever is naming anything in the 1980's is just wrong! :p
Funny...I was discussing this with a collecting friend recently...and I think almost all of the topps issues up to the mid 70's were pretty damn cool...esp compared to the lack of imagination and creativity of the last 20-30 yrs.
Tough to pick a favorite...but I've always been partial to the oversized 50's issues...as I had hardly any of them as a kid!!!! |
1968 3D....easily, no runner up.
1954 followed by 1985!
1957
1957-first complete set as a kid. Now in landfill thanks to stepmother.
1972 - Chasing after the last series nearly burned the tires off my bike! Second pick would be 1955.
tie 53/52
then 55 57 |
To add to my original post:
1954 1983 2001 Stadium Club (don't be a hater) |
55, 60, 72 in that order.
Got to be 55 and 71. They are the only ones I completed.
For pure looks though probably 54, the 56, and finally 67 Drew |
love 52-56
not a fan of anything 1957 and forward |
1965. Just love that Topps issue.
1. 1977
B. 1957 III. 1953 Quote:

Not just because it's the year I was born.
1967 |
1. 1952 (set the wheels in motion for all modern sets)
2. 1955 (amazing combination of horizontal design with vibrant colors) 3. 1961 (classic design with some of the best "specials" ever produced) 4. 1975 (most colorful set ever produced, amazing rookies, plus the "minis") |
I like the 1972 set because of all the colors and action shots. 1960 would probably be my second choice. Unfortunately i was born in 1973 and think the 1973 design was one of the worst, design wise but have 20 thousand of them anyways.
When I was a youngster, I collected 1954 thru 1960 Topps. My favorite was/is 1957, one of the biggest reasons being that the players' stats for each year of their careers are on the backs. I loved "reading" players' stats, box scores, etc. as a youngster, and I still do!

I like this one too

1952 or 1973 comic
1957 - Remember chasing the "tough" series all the way from IL to NY on a family trip, finally finding a box in Lorain, OH and then the store owner(a relative) wouldn't sell me the whole box!!
I like the '55 Topps. Too much going on in the '56 for me.
1955
1963 ... Love the colors and the design
Oh and of course it includes this........ http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/...hof/RoseRC.jpg |
I, too, love the oversized sets from '52-56, with '53 being my favorite. Such a simple design with amazing artwork on almost every card. The exception being the Whitey Ford card. It looks like he's in considerable pain from a bad case of constipation.
Favorite set is the 1951 Connie Mack's All- Stars. Also any baseball card with Don Mossi on it.
My favorites are the 1955 Topps, I have a starter set of them that began in the dumbest way possible.
Years ago I bought a 1956 Topps Jackie Robinson when I was getting cards from the 50-60's of certain players(55 Bowman Mays, 53 Paige, Killebrew rookie, 57 Campanella etc). Anywho, I decided to collect a set from the 50's, so without going back and looking, I said I really like that 55 Robinson I have so I'm going to collect that set...Had about 40 cards before I actually looked for the Robinson, found it and saw my mistake. That story being said to appease the vintage masses, I honestly like the 1987 Topps set better than any others. It is what I collected the most as a kid, love the design and the selection of players, especially the young players included at the time. |
1952 TOPPS
60 years ago this month, I opened up a TOPPS 5-cent pack and was delighted to find Mickey (and 4 more Hi #s). http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmantle52t.jpg TED Z |
1957
1972 1963 in that order Honorable mention to 1977 and 1956 |
1. 1956
2. 1960 3. 1959 |
1956. Only 50's set I have with 164 duplicates all autographed.
1956
Favorite Topps set
I will go with 1967.
'54 is my favorite, followed by '63
62 is special because it was my first introduction to cards as a kid, but 57 is my favorite. Best non-regular set . . . 64 coins, but only in NM. The rusty ones suck.
