1975 Topps Yount RC BVG 9.5 to PSA Crossover Experiment
2 Attachment(s)
Hey Folks,
I want to get your opinion on a (possible) first-time crossover attempt for me. I just got this 1975 Topps Yount RC, BVG 9.5 Gem Mint (old case), and am considering sending it to PSA to see if I can get a 10. I've compared it to some PSA 10s and it looks good to me, but what say you? If the back looks a little off center, they're all that way. |
From what I understand the odds are greatly against you on this type of crossover. To me, anything 9 and above looks the same anyway. :)
|
Would the print spot in the "B" hurt it?
|
One of the 10's I compared it to had the same print mark a little higher and to the left, so I don't think so
|
I think that is a huge roll of the dice. The back is off center and PSA has gotten really tough in the last couple of years. I think the odds of landing a 10 are really high. I would leave in Beckett slab.
|
Top right corner appears just slightly soft too. I don't think this will cross ever. If you crack out it could be PSA's idea of an 8 or a kiss of death like trimmed or a resub loop of minsizerq. I would leave as is.
|
The best you'll do with PSA is a straight 10. After that, it's 9 or less since the highest half grade PSA issues is 8.5.
Odds are you drop a grade or more switching over. If you want a PSA slab, switch it over. If you want the grade, leave it as is. If you switch, let us know the outcome! |
Jason, you'll never know unless you try. The centering, color, and picture focus registry are worthy of a PSA 10. Go for it! That is, after you ascertain the best way to SAFELY extract a card from a BVG holder.
Here's wishing you the very best, bro, in your experiment.:D ---Brian Powell |
Find someone politically connected and have them try in the holder.

...Go into the smallest room/closet in your house , with really good lighting. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES....I always crack Becketts at the top right corner , using long-handled bolt cutters. ..P.S.---That appears to be a newer label ; as there are no sub-grades front nor back... .. .. |

always thought PSA can declare a 'best 10' that you can see on psa cert look up to which is the current best 10 |

I see this off center left to right on front and back...I wouldn't send to PSA if it were mine.

DO NOT CRACK OUT. Resubmit multiple times as a crossover if you feel it's PSA worthy, but DO NOT CRACK OUT.

Yes, checking that the card is full size is very important when trying to cross over BGS to PSA. Luckily though, PSA will give you the MINSIZREQ to let you know that's the problem if it doesn't cross. And make sure to specify PSA 10 as the min grade to crossover, unless you'll still be able to make a profit on a PSA 9.

The BVG 9.5 Yount is sheet cut. Zero percent chance it will cross. Zero percent chance it will end up in a numbered PSA holder if broken out and submitted.
|
Why respond with that answer without explaining why you think it's sheet cut? Why declare that it is, and provide zero evidence?

Thanks for the rationale.

Exactly
Exactly what Brian said and in my experiences yes I have seen many sheet cut or outright trimmed cards in bvg holders. A higher percentage than the percentage of osa and sgc cards that I have seen in holders. There was a time it was a crazy amount this has gotten better but in no way do I trust them catching trimmed cards.
