Nice to see ...never really a big fan-friendly player this was a nice thing to do.

Bonds

Thanks for sharing. It's good to read about efforts to help.

Bonds' Gift

While this magnificent gesture likely won't help BB get into the BB HOF, it definitely will get him into the Good Guys HOF!

Wow, that's huge for the Stow family. Who would have guessed that Barry was such a caring guy??
Thanks for sharing Randall as I hadn't seen this story...

It's a nice gesture, but easy to do when you are worth millions. Still doesn't make up for being a jerk for the past 20 years.

David Atkatz 05-26-2011 03:32 PM

Very nice thing for him to do. A mitzvah. Good on him.
He's still an ass, though.

doug.goodman 05-26-2011 05:48 PM

Forgive me, but nobody who is an "ass" or a "jerk" does what Bonds did, especially in the quiet manner in which he did it. Sure he's worth millions, but in my job I cross paths with millionaires every day, and although they may all have done similar things that I'm not aware of, many of them probably haven't.

If you are an ass or a jerk and you have millions of dollars, you are perfectly capable of spending your money on far more entertaining things than the college educations of the children of someone who you do not know. Charlie Sheen (who I am not calling an ass or a jerk) might be able to supply some ideas on how to spend your money.

Can't we just give the guy the common courtesy of allowing his kind gesture to be thought of as simply a kind gesture, and respond with a tip of the cap for a job well done?

Just my thoughts,
Doug

David Atkatz 05-26-2011 05:58 PM

I did tip my cap to him for that act of kindness.
But that act doesn't change who he is.

I agree Doug. That was a home run of a gesture. Well done, Barry ...

nice feel good story, but what does this have to do with Vintage memorabilia?:p

Rickyy 05-27-2011 05:16 PM

I wasn't suprised when I heard this...as Barry's been doing charity stuff behind the scenes for many years here in the bay area...he's prickly and certainly isn't a saint...but he yeah he does some good things... okay back to memorabilia!

For good or bad, the Giants fans were loyal to Barry. I would imagine he has some genuine appreciation towards them.

David...

That avatar photo is tiny, but am guessing that's Jean Shrimpton? If so, can you blow up the image? Gotta get a better look at those legs

There's a doll in the back that looks an awful lot like Estelle Costanza.
