Need some help. Going to Cubs and White Sox games.

Thinking about going to Chicago for the first time.
Taking the wife and the little one and staying close to Wrigley.
Any recommendations on where to sit at these ballparks?
Looking for nice seats with out spending a fortune.
Thanks in advance!

Howdy!

At Cellular Field (or wtvr they call it now) There are plenty of good seating at every price point (and very few bad seats) so I'd get out the seating map on their website and match price and spot you want.

At Wrigley ,however, you have to be cautious, I bought some prime seats while in college there right under the overhang behind home plate and discovered my seat had a post right in front of it, blocking my view.... sigh, So, what I recommend for both ease, budget and fun factor is to seat in the bleachers. It's not any less comfortable, it has a more fun atmosphere and it's kind of a Cubs tradition to sit out in the bleachers with an Old Style beer and a hot dog.

hope this helps!

For the Cubs, I'd buy tickets ASAP. Tickets will only get pricier as the season goes on. Tickets are probably still available online through the Cubs website. I believe there's a "view from seat" function when buying. If cost is a factor, pick weekday games against lesser teams. Early in the season would be cheaper too. The bleachers are general admission, the park opens two hours before game time. I recommend getting in line for the gates opening. You have a better chance of choosing your seat and you get to watch BP, with a better chance of getting a BP homerun ball. The bigger group you have, the more imperative this is. You can bring in unopened plastic bottles of non alcoholic beverages and snacks to help cut costs. If the weather is hot, its especially good to stay hydrated. There's also a discount on ballpark food, I believe for the 1st hour the park is open. I prefer day games too. The crowd is a bit less rowdy in the bleachers (less drinking before the game). Weekday games the crowd tends to be a bit older. Right field faces west so the setting sun can be in your eyes.

The first few rows of the upper deck are great seats, kind of under rated. On the lower level, I prefer not being too far back under the upper deck. You can't see fly balls until the outfielder is about to catch it nor can you see the center field scoreboard. I enjoy the lower level corner seats, they rise gradually and give a decent perspective.

I've been to hundreds of games at Wrigley and have sat in every price level and location, from the old days when the upper deck was closed to now, when the team is the reigning World Series Champion.

I'll be going to a Sunday day game.
Might splurge a little and do the lower level.
The Tuesday Sox game looks like I can go on the cheap.

VERY helpful. Thank you, gentlemen. Appreciate it!

I did this a few years ago with a buddy (also made the trek to Milwaukee.) Went cheap for the Sox because I didn't care, but we were WAY up there, higher than I've ever been in a stadium.

For Wrigley, we bit the bullet and ponied up for bleacher seats. Well worth it.

Also, for the Sox, you can't roam the lower levels without a ticket for there, except the ground level. Sort of disappointing.

For a Tuesday Sox game, I'd probably buy tickets at the ticket window, day of game. You never know about the weather. If the weather looks bad, Milwaukee could be an option if they're in town. Miller Park is a two hour drive north of Chicago and it has a roof. Tickets there are easy to come by and relatively cheap.

When are you going?

Wrigley:
Terrace reserve = bad tickets

Always sit bleachers when given choice if little one is able to handle sun. Great to go early and try to catch batting practice homeruns too for the kid.

Do NOT sit Terrace Reserve.

For Wrigley's best experience your going to spend some jack this year. You want to sit no father back then the 100s behind either dugout. Trust me it's worth the money for the experience. The views are so close its crazy and you'll be in foul ball heaven. This is the best team to see in all of baseball and Wrigley field brings you 100 years back in time. Make sure you stop and get a $5 jumbo slice of pizza and a drink at Bacci pizzeria on addison by the L.

Al's Beef south of the ballpark on Clark. Walking distance

There's a Home Run Pizza on Sheffield within walking distance if you want to get away from the near Wrigley bar scene. You'll more than likely be able to get a table if you don't linger too at Wrigley long after the game.

Weiner Circle for hot dogs & fries, divey looking but good, south of the park but not within walking distance.

Wrigley, Tuesday night game. 224, Row 1 on the aisle underneath the overhang.
Nice full view of the entire ballpark.
White Sox, Sunday day game. Box seats behind home plate, 30 rows up on the aisle. Looking forward to running the bases after the game with my daughter (2) if they let me.
$200 total for both games, 4 tickets. Can't complain. I paid that for two tickets to watch my Cardinals last year.

Thanks for the food recommendations. Pizza is first on my list.
