Great pick ups, Derek

Thank you Derek! Very nice pickups, love that Irvin.

As ugly as it looks, it is still beautiful to me.

Thanks to Todd for the card. Have it shadowboxed on my desk at home. This encapsulates everything about what I think a 100 year old card should look like.

I got these three beauties and another really nice card, in what was for me at least a very big straight up trade.

Haven't seen one of these, and since I collect pre-1912 Iowa baseball post-cards, had to have it. Wonder what "...and you can have me" meant in 1908?

Was able to add a Detroit type card to my collection from the SF Hess Newsboys League. Thank you Dan McKee! I've been wanting a nice Detroit example for awhile. I'm sure this little guy was a big fan of the Detroit Wolverines.

Was able to knock off two very scarce* OJ cards at one time thanks to Joe's Vintage Cards (*according to the Miller,Gonsowski,Masson Old Judge book, I am not a plant for them, just a reference :) )

Found this at a local flea market today with my wife and son and found this and it was fairly cheap. I could not be happier with this one.

Nice one Joe! He looks really excited about having his picture taken! How cool would it have been back then to have a card issued, as a kid...

Nice SF Hess!

T206 Ed Konetchy - Glove Near Ground Pied Fact 42

Picked up my 3rd Piedmont Factory 42 off e-bay last week. Won it the day my e-bay bucks hit, so it only cost me a fraction of winning bid :D Has back stamp ( Garwood Jaynes ) which as many of you know, I actually like back stamps. Sorry for the fuzzy scans...

Great DiMaggio Bulldog. I like the logic too. If you need to miss part of a card, let it be the border.

1885 Harper's Weekly

2 Attachment(s)
I am uber excited to have picked up this early (earliest?) Buck Ewing. There are plenty of notable HOFers on this complete 1885 Harper's Weekly Woodcut:

bcbgcbrcb 07-10-2012 06:16 AM

Very nice pick-up, Derek, I used to own that one and loved it with all of the HOF'ers. There is an individual woodcut of Ewing pictured in an 1882 issue of the New York Clipper, had that one too and sold it a little while back. I believe that there is also an earlier c1880 Troy team photograph out there, that one is sure to cost in the thousands, maybe even five-figures.

38 Goudey Heads Up Foxx

2 Attachment(s)
Well, picked up this signed Jimmie Foxx 1938 Goudey Heads Up for a steal on the bay in looking at comparables. It got certified through PSA/DNA (which I don't care, I want a slab protection on the card). And would like to give Jim and Richard a shout out again for their help. Will post pics in slab upon receipt.

chaddurbin 07-10-2012 02:38 PM

ahh the barely there sig, i thought the price was ok...and then u have to add into psa/dna fees. the comparables are probably fully legible playball sigs.

Sig looks waaaaaaay better in person, not even close really. $300 for a Foxx signed pre-war card, I'll take it any day of the week. And submission was $20 for get autograph authenticated. So around $50. Card had a nicer signature, well over $1k, but I'm never going to sell it.

Only pre-war signed Foxx card I'll ever be able to afford.

Thanks Matt! Super excited! Finally got a Foxx auto on a pre-war. No chance I'd be able to afford one on a '33 Goudey.

chaddurbin 07-10-2012 02:53 PM

i didn't know they only charge $20 for a foxx sig, i will have to contact them about other similar sigs like speaker and lajoie.

if the card had a fully legible sig I would've bidded 1k since i collect foxx stuff. nice pu either way.

Don't go through PSA/DNA or you'd have to pay for a premium on signatures like that. If you go through PSA Card it's just $20 (you check a box on submission form). If it is on a card that is. I'm glad it didn't have a fully legible autograph because I wouldn't have been able to get it lol. Thanks!

Foxx through PSA/DNA would have been $75 alone. JSA $150.

Two new pickups...a beater Hughie, and another Dauvray for the "baseball-related" collection..

tjlives 07-10-2012 05:01 PM

Picked this one up off of the B/S/T from Bill L, my first M116 Sporting Life. I fell in love with the blue Matty years ago and I hadn't gotten a chance at one in my price range!

I scored my very first 1912 Imperial C46

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170869540802...84.m1439.l2649

Anybody ever soaked a C46? To be honest, I missed the extra scans at the bottom of the listing. Doesn't matter, it'll work as my first, for less than $15

Main or Mains?

Very very happy to pickup the 1919 Zeenut of Miles Main. I usually stay away from minor league cards but from what I understand this is his only baseball card... Now the question is, is it Miles Main or is it Miles Mains:confused:
