The Oval Wagner

1 Attachment(s)
Are you tired of Wagner reprints with four sharp corners and "Reprint" clearly visible on the reverse? I am.

Are you tired of Wagner reprints with 20th century "aging" techniques applied to obscure the "authenticity" of the reprint? I am.

Are you tired of spending a couple of million dollars on one of those seldom seen graded Wagners? I am.

Allow me to proudly introduce to you (not my listing) the "Oval Wagner" with 21st century "Renaissance" aging methodology. My Amerigo Vespucci Rookie card looks better after spending 500 years in the same North Carolina estate sale after being left there by Amerigo himself.

Review the listing yourself. I'm withholding my assessment so as not to affect the outcome of the auction.

Perhaps not surprisingly, I've seen worse.

Mdmtx 06-08-2017 12:30 PM

Dammit Frank. How insensitive of you. I had my snipe at $1,000,001.99. Since you outed the diamond (or oval as the case may be) in the rough, I may have to up my snipe...

I hate misleading listings that claim it's a "rookie" card when it's not.

iowadoc77 06-08-2017 12:40 PM

Quite amazing how the print is so bold in the name despite being sanded with a belt sander!

I noticed that as well. I guess the seller didn't want to age/trim the name off the card, though anyone interested would know the Wagner card at a glance. :D

That I didn't notice.

From the listing..."Take a look at the pictures and judge for yourself."

OK, done. It's a fake!

Artisan craftsmanship dictates "hand sanding".:D

Even more impressive than the card itself is the percent of bids by the top bidder with the seller as well as the second highest bidder's 57 bid retractions.

Of what use to eBay (or PWCC for that matter) is making bid retraction data available to astute Net54 participants? Are they worried about the sustainability of the forum without fodder for fraud and shilling threads? I think we would be just fine with our freak and shipping threads.

With only 57 retractions that bidder isn't going to the All-Star game despite being over the Mendoza line.:D

Jantz 06-08-2017 02:26 PM

The seller recently moved from Ohio to Massachusetts. ;)

Jeffrompa 06-08-2017 05:12 PM

Anybody ...

Can have a card with four corners .

nsaddict 06-08-2017 05:30 PM

The current high bidder (1185 feedbck) is a shiller. 88% bidding activity with this seller!

brianp-beme 06-08-2017 05:38 PM

Ovals are soooo common

I'm holding out until I come across a pentagonal Wagner.

It's the latest Helmar!

EvilKing00 06-08-2017 06:34 PM

Got to love how the whole card looks like it was hit by a sand belt, but the name is in great shape

Bigdaddy 06-08-2017 08:49 PM

I know you guys say it is Honus, but it looks more like Shoeless Joe to me. Check out the ears, it's a dead ringer for Joe.

Leon 06-09-2017 06:05 AM

That is one pretty card. I think this guy has had 9 retractions on this card alone? :)

Don't let battleship get her hands on it or the listing will read, four sharp corners dazzling color, perfectly centered, original gloss, rare Back .

chalupacollects 06-09-2017 06:25 AM

Seller also has items graded by "GMA." WHO are they?

These prices seem pretty fair for cards that could be really tough to move in a dollar box  -

Are you guys saying that my Wagner Drum back isn't worth anything. T206 Insider says its worth $6342000000.

Sean 06-11-2017 05:08 PM

You should put it on the BST! :D

Card from the OP ended at just under $450.

And it's not the only oval Wagner on eBay

frankbmd 06-11-2017 09:44 PM

Never said that oval Wagners were rare.

The $450 price tag could bring an army of oval Wagners out of the closet though.

Leon 06-12-2017 07:59 AM

I would have only paid $400!!
