Fantastic collection!!! You made an old post new again and we appreciate it:D

vintagesportflips 01-28-2011 06:46 PM

Thanks Mike, and I figured this post wasn't too old to keep alive. Plus we get to look at all those amazing collections all over again. The hartland collection is unbelievable. Great stuff everyone.

DetroitJay 03-13-2011 09:51 PM

I'm new here. I dabble in a little bit of everything, vintage baseball cards, University of Notre Dame football, game worn hockey jerseys, all sorts of stuff. I find i can just sit back in my lazy boy in the man-room and relax for hours just looking at the walls. The room is covered with things my Dad and I collected over 25 years or so.

I know a lot of the stuff is newer than what you guys on here collect. But, i enjoy it, and each piece has a story behind it.

The football helmet is a game used Notre Dame helmet from the 1980's i suprised my Dad with after trading a game worn hockey jersey for it.

We have a little collection of stuff from the movie "For Love of the Game" and had the Tigers Chapel jersey made up for it.

The old books are Knute Rockne books and old ND yearbooks from his time there.

The boxing gloves are signed by the 3 greatest fighters in hockey history, John Ferguson, Bob Probert and Clark Gillies.

I can tell you where each card in my showcases came from and approx when i bought it. My favorite is the 1954 Ted Williams i traded a 1991 OPC Premier Hockey set for! I should probably get the cards graded and will in time. The Mantle's were the beginning of a 25 year quest to get one each of his Topps/Bowman. I have several more not shown and am down to the 1953 Topps, 1951 Bowman. I'm afraid the 1952 wont be happening within my budget! LOL.

If the stuff is too new, please let me know, i will delete. Just wanted to share.

Welcome to the forum Jay. You have a terrific collection and we appreciate you posting images. While many of us tend to focus on vintage pieces, most if not all have newer pieces as well. Enjoy your collection, our hobby, and the folks you meet here. Please post any time.

Great collections everyone!

Scott - I want to know what these "two unbelieveably cool things" Nolan sent you are!!!

Jay- love the "Love of the Game" poster!

Mine's nothing like some of these very impressive rooms, but it's coming along.

One wall is dedicated to Negro League autographs, most of which I obtained in person:
http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/5158/img3570lv.jpg

Then the main wall of the loft, the baseballs share it with the TV. For now.
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/9096/img3575b.jpg

A closer view of the displays to the left of the TV. The stand on the left is mostly major league balls with some minor league special even balls thrown in, the one on the right is regular season minor league and international league balls.

Great looking collection there, Kevin!! Congrats!

parker1b2 03-20-2011 07:19 PM

Great Collections guys, thanks for sharing I love seeing others rooms. It gives me ideas on how to display items and what other people collect.

IronHorse2130 03-20-2011 08:11 PM

Awesome collection Kevin! I noticed the Edison cylinder machine hiding there. Do you collect phonographs as well?

Just noticed you also have several nippers and a record brush next to the table top model with morning glory horn. Guess you do collect phonographs!

peterb69 03-21-2011 09:43 AM

Great collection Kevin. Who's bat and what size is the one in the last photo?

khkco4bls 03-21-2011 05:56 PM

ben, i did collect phonographs. had 20 machines. kept 3 and then the baseball bonanza started. also the last bats were owned by the child in the photo. R.C. Reed. In orig. black over red barn paint. top bat 39", and bottom probably 30" 1860 to 1870s.

Display rooms

Great looking rooms guys!
Tsattert, thats a great looking visual display with all of those baseball flanking your tv. Looks awesome.
Amazing room Kevin. Thanks for posting the photos. I love your collection of lemon peels, gussett style, and figure 8's. Is that an artifact of being closer to the camera or is that ball on the left that much larger than the others? If so, what type of ball is that, and early indoor baseball?

Cool. My grandfather collected phonographs and I kept a few machines after he passed away. Do you have any baseball related records? I know I have Casey at the Bat and I think Cohen at a Baseball Game on cylinder. I also have a rather unusual 78 that was made during the 1920's of Ruth & Gehrig performing a really cheesy comedy bit.

Pre-War Room... halfway done!

I am exhausted from measuring and hanging pennants, so am taking a break to revive this great thread.

I am putting together a "Pre-War Room" from scratch and it's almost halfway done. Just wanted to post some pics of it's progress. I am saving some of the best Pennants for that final wall. Hope to be done in a couple weeks... too bad that pesky job keeps getting in the way!

Stay tuned...

MGHPro 05-19-2011 10:40 PM

Mark.. Amazing stuff! Looks great!

BrockJacob 05-19-2011 11:06 PM

Been waiting YEARS for you to post some pictures like this Mark! Looks awesome!

vintagesportflips 05-20-2011 06:24 AM

Unbelievable looking room and collection Mark! One amazing pennant after another, and you trophy collection is awesome as well.

tothrk 05-20-2011 06:34 AM

Great stuff

Those pennants are incredible. I know zero about cards & even less about pennants. What is the Pittsburgh pennant with the skull & crossbones? Tough to find? Ballpark $$ if you don't mind saying?

dwr11 05-20-2011 07:28 AM

Mark - Awesome collection. Thanks for sharing!

perezfan 05-20-2011 11:30 AM

Thanks all, for the nice comments... it's slow going, but definitely taking shape. Those framed oversized pennants are heavy, and it's tough to climb a ladder with one hand while holding on to the frame with the other.

They're higher up than they might appear.... really wishing that this project was done!

TOTHRK... That Pirates Pennant is from the teens (Honus Wagner era) and is the only one I have seen. It's obviouly rare, and possibly a lone survivor. The graphics are all embroidered, as opposed to painted or screened on. The condition is pretty amazing, given its age. It has a Spalding Bros. tag on the reverse. That one and the Tigers pennant above it are immense... you can gain a size perspective by looking at the door frame below, and the two Cubs Pennants to the right (which are normal full-sized pennants).

That diamond-shaped thing in the middle is a 1906 White Sox Champs Mirror/Coat Rack (in case anyone was wondering what the heck that was).

Big Dave 05-20-2011 11:54 AM

Great pis everyone. Thanks for the ideas too.

That mirror looks somewhat familiar. Great display on it all.

Finally finished this Pre War project. Now it's on to the "Athletics Room".

5 sets of 5 pics to follow. A few very nice pieces either did not fit, or just weren't right for the layout of the room. Please keep an eye on the Memorabilia B/S/T, as I'll be offering up some very nice stuff when time allows... thanks!

I'm blown away Mark. Amazing stuff and very nicely displayed. Looks great!

Stunning collection and display room Mark. Thanks for posting photos.

Scott Garner 06-17-2011 06:19 PM

Bravo Mark!

Wow- what a great room! Congrats on completing your project & your collection is really amazing!

sayhey24 06-17-2011 06:33 PM

Mark --

Absolutely fantastic. I love the Ty Cobb pieces in the very first photo -- the slider and the loving cup-type trophy.
I assume in your tall case of gloves, the card being displayed matches the glove endorser?

Any chance of seeing some more wide shots like the very last photo?

Once more -- stunning, what a labor of love.

Greg

Lordstan 06-17-2011 06:44 PM

Mark,

What happened...you couldn't find anything good to display so you went with that stuff?

OMFG that stuff is unbelievable. Is it possible that when I die, I could be buried in that room surrounded by those displays?

Congrats on a wonderful labor of love.
Mark

mjkm90 06-17-2011 08:18 PM

Mark, I am speachless. While I believe you have shown me most of your top pieces over the years, seeing them all displayed in such a museum quality manner it fantastic. I hope you are enjoying the fruits of your labor my friend:)

baseball tourist 06-18-2011 02:23 AM

Wow!

Amazing stuff Mark! And so nicely set up/ displayed. I much prefer the orderly clean approach to displays as opposed to a room that looks cluttered and overstuffed with items. Well done. Thanks for posting the pics.

Many thanks to all for the very kind comments. Makes it feel much more worth the time invested in putting this all together!

Greg- Yes... each Goudey Card matches the endorser of the Glove within that cubicle. I had to recently splurge for a Dazzy Vance Goudey, as that particular glove just had to be included in the tower display. Guess I'm one of the few "dinosaurs" left who actually prefers these cards raw. Fortunately, I already had the other corresponding cards

I've had a bunch of requests for more close-up photos of some of the items. So I'll throw the requested pics into these next 2 posts.

1. Early smoking-related items
2. Catchers Mask examples- 1900s/1910s/1920s/1930s
3. Walter Johnson Trophy
4. Cubs Cubicle
5. Shafer - Vater Figurals

Thanks again for your very nice feedback on the room!

A few more blown-up pics that people had requested...

1. Rare style Bead-weld Mask
2. Misc. early figurals
3. Trophy Cups

That's it... thanx!!
