I wonder how many photos exist of the first ML game for Deadball Era HOFers?

Here is a photo of Rube Marquard.

Marquard was called up to the Giants on September 23rd 1908 after being purchased for $11K from Indianapolis that summer. He appeared in his one and only game in 1908 on September 25th. Bull Durham also pitched that day in his only appearance that year.

Now look at this image from the September 30, 1908 edition of the Owensboro Messenger.

Here is a rotated version of the image to align with the photo. A perfect match!

So, this must be a photo from Marquard's first week in the bigs, in all liklihood warming up for his first game. Note the back references the photo being used for the first page of the Police Gazette. Here is where you can help, does anyone have late September or early October 1908 copies of the Police Gazette to check for a match.

Also, what else is out there? Please post any other Deadball Era HOF first game photos you have. I am curious to see if others exist.

Great stuff. Would love to know if the image made it into the Police Gazette in the end.

It took Rube Marquard about four years before he found his way in the NL. during his early struggles he was referred to as the "$11,000 Lemon."

Ok, perhaps other 1st game photos do not exist. Let's open it up to pre WWI HOFer images in their rookie year. What is out there?
