Legendary Pickups. . .

Anyone walk away with anything good last night? I picked up the Cobb Pinkerton postcard.

Bicem 02-28-2013 09:18 AM

nice, Pinkerton Cobb was the one thing I was really considering. Great pickup, thought it went cheap.

the-illini 02-28-2013 09:39 AM

OJ Wright

Saw the OJ Wright went for $750 - I think that was a pretty good pickup for someone considering it had the "NL" designation on it. Surprised Legendary didnt include that in the description; it is even on the SGC slip...

tschock 02-28-2013 09:51 AM

If anyone here won the "1880s-1930s Vintage "Type Card" Collection (117 Different) Including Hall of Famers", let me know. There are 1 (maybe 2) minor cards I would be interested in.

I thought so too, that is why I won it. In fact, I was trying to figure out how much my max bid was going to be and around 11:29pm last night, I was actually getting mad that the other bidders were waiting until the last minute to place their next bid. I didn't want to stay up too late going back and forth on it.

Not only is Wright a tough HOF'er to get in the first place, the 1890 card only comes with one of his three poses and it is a lot easier to find the non-NL version of that card. So yes, that is a very tough card to find

ethicsprof 02-28-2013 09:54 AM

pickup

I acquired the underwood and underwood 1915 photo of game 2
of the world series between Boston and Philadelphia.
Great dynamic between the 2 catchers. Grover Cleveland Alexander lost this
one.
all the best,
barry

This auction is still running, ends tonight

Glad to hear you got it John - agree that 750 is a good price for a "common" Wright, much less this one. I had a placeholder bid in and planned to come back and bid again but I got busy and by the time I checked it again the auction had ended.

I thought so too Jeff. Kept waiting for someone to come back at me, but it never happened.

Thanks Scott. Wish I put in another bid on the Wilbert Robinson OJ, that went too cheap. Someone got a great buy on that

John, nice pickup on the 1890 Wright! Prices were pretty weak across the board. Prices were strong in the last Legendary, but weak again in the one before last... Seems very shaky to me. I wasn't a bidder last night for various reasons, so I'll just tell myself that I would've just been running stuff up to normal prices anyway, and I'll get over it.

Edit: It Looks like last night was my chance to grab a Brooklyn mini... I have been wanting one since I started collecting, I hope the Driers had more.

Yep, definitely; unfortunately, the only stuff I was seriously interested in, went high. At some point the guys collecting the same stuff as me have to run out of money :)

Now I am collecting freaking puzzles. What next!!

The buyer of the Wrights CDV got a steal IMHO. Also, the T210 Stengel went for a pretty affordable price. Where did the PM1 Ruth pinback end up?

5500

Jaybird 02-28-2013 03:04 PM

Nice looking display piece, Leon. I find myself more and more drawn to the things we can look at everyday in our homes.

bcbgcbrcb 02-28-2013 03:34 PM

Thanks, Steve, sounds fair on that one, not too high or too low since I believe that it is one of only two known.

packs 02-28-2013 03:54 PM

Got my fingers crossed for tonight.

cyseymour 02-28-2013 05:04 PM

Nice pick-ups, everyone. I would have thought the Robinson would go in the $1200 range. The Dreier Collection has put an abnormal amount of OJ HOFers on the market recently, and that has caused some price weakness.

Many of their OJs seem to have weak photo quality, which I think is adding to the price weakness.

E93 02-28-2013 05:35 PM

I picked up these two toughies.

Jim - that Clarkson is amazing. Nice grab.

Runscott 02-28-2013 07:59 PM

I'm grabbing a burger, and then going to Chat to sweat it out.

tcdyess 02-28-2013 08:03 PM

Totally have fingers crossed, under 1 1/2 hrs left!!

packs 02-28-2013 08:31 PM

Was that Clarkson once part of a larger piece? I couldn't tell.

Seems like it was pasted/adhered onto a schedule. The one other one that I am aware of was pasted onto a bigger piece with a different back. Maybe they were thin cards produced by Conly and made available to various interested parties who adhered them to schedules, etc. I am just speculating. There is very little evidence to go on.

I just thought the image was spectacular, maybe unique (?) and fits well with other cards from the era.

I'm really yearning for the old days. Big auction night, zippo, nada chat action :(

Sad.

The only one I found when looking for info was the one REA auctioned a few years ago.. When you look at the image of the schedule opened you can see it has the same back.

Runscott 02-28-2013 09:09 PM

lots of connection issues - I saw Kenny and Chris both join and immediately lose their connections.

What's up with that?

Seiklis 02-28-2013 09:09 PM

I can't that chat room to work at all, just goes to a blank white screen

Doesn't work for me either

Runscott 02-28-2013 09:10 PM

There are only two of us who have been able to keep it up.

(feeling huge)

Kenny Cole 02-28-2013 09:12 PM

I cannot get on to chat. Have tried repeatedly.

Congrats Leon, those puzzles were some of my favorite display pieces at Chad and Dougs. You're going to love it when you see it in person.

Our chat room, for all practical purposes, isn't working. It is on the "to-do" list. Hopefully I can get something figured out soon. I will push it a bit higher on the priority list.

Seiklis 02-28-2013 09:17 PM

yea mine's connecting, then loads the skin and language, then itflickers the chat for a moment then goes white

I'm on Chrome if that makes a difference

No, I don't think it makes a difference. I am on chrome too. The chat is just broken right now. (for me and some others)

Runscott 02-28-2013 09:25 PM

Isn't that weird, three of us are in there chatting away.

Normally I'm among the screwed when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Runscott 02-28-2013 09:26 PM

I can't decide - do I buy an E107 common, or do I buy a car?

Kenny Cole 02-28-2013 09:28 PM

Go with the E107. Cars depreciate. :-)

Jim--it has the same back. The schedule is four sides and the image you are seeing is side four. Side two is on the back of the trimmed Clarkson.
