OT: Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship

Hello everyone!

Hope all is well. As many of you know, I will be heading off to college at the end of this year. This is a very exciting time in my life. I have been accepted to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, Clarkson University, the University of Vermont, and a couple others in pursuit of a degree in civil engineering. This is a great undertaking and I have made it my goal to walk out of college with as little debt as possible. Unfortunately, one cannot escape engineering school without paying $60,000+ a year. Even with merit and financial aid, the debt will greatly burden me. I have entered a scholarship contest which is located within the New England area. It is known as the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship. I am posting this to the board because I would greatly appreciate if everyone voted for me for this scholarship. It would open many more doors. All you need to do is click Vermont, Mount Saint Joseph Academy (my school), and Joshua Wasilewski. Then you can read my essay about sportsmanship and cast a vote if you choose to do so. Once you submit the vote, please check your email/spam and click on the link in the email it sends you to confirm the vote. After you confirm the email, you can vote daily without having to reconfirm your email address. I do not expect individuals to vote every day, but the more I receive, the better chance I have of winning this scholarship. "Individuals may vote from 9:00 a.m. EDT on March 23, 2015 through 3:00 p.m. EDT on April 24, 2015 (the “Voting Phase”)." I really appreciate all the hope and the supportive community of Net54.

Thank you once again,

Joshua.
P.S. I cleared this with Leon before posting this.

You've got some incredible options. Congratulations! I voted for you. For those that are interested, it takes less than a minute to vote and you can opt not to receive any updates, etc. from them. It could not be easier.

wazoo 03-25-2015 06:35 PM

Thank you so much! I appreciate all the support. Glad it is an easy process.

Leon 03-25-2015 06:50 PM

Hey Joshua
I just voted. It took about 2 minutes. Like I said, I sure wish my daughter, who is going off to college similar to you this year, was as interested in helping the cause (tuition) as much as you are. Good luck *and nice essay too!!

Voted as well. However, I might have to rescind my vote if you go to Clarkson (St Lawrence graduate here). Just kidding, you got some great schools in mind. Best of luck!

I voted for you also, good luck. Is that a picture of you on the mound?

wolf441 03-25-2015 07:15 PM

My vote is in Waz, best of luck and you can't go wrong with those school choices!! Although after growing up in Vermont, how about CalTech?? Very little snow in Pasadena!!! :D

clydepepper 03-25-2015 07:15 PM

Joshua - I have voted for you and will try to do so again...when is the deadline?

I am the lower-achieving younger brother of a high-achieving Georgia Tech graduate and an uncle to two more (his sons). Thank goodness the family had the wherewithal and discipline to pay for all of that fine education. All three are employed as highly-skilled engineers with great career paths and even the youngest already makes a lot more money than I ever did.

Good Luck on your educational experience!

-Raymond

Yes, that is me on the mound. It is a picture from the championship game at Centennial Field (where the Lake Monsters Play).

Thanks guys! This means a lot to me. I'm excited to pursue this career choice, even if the weather is freezing at some of these schools :D.

The rules require that you be an American resident. Though I am an American citizen and taxpayer I reside in Canada. I'd vote every day for this young man but would hate to see his efforts scuttled by ineligible votes.

Leon: Any chance you can "sticky" this thread?

irishdenny 03-26-2015 08:09 PM

Let's see how it goes on the sticky. I will be voting every day and I am sure a few others might. If it moves off the front page we will rectify it. Great suggestion....and if need be, we'll do it.

FirstYearCards 03-27-2015 02:26 AM

You got my vote, good luck. I went to Embry-Riddle out of Air Force with no financial help, I understand your situation. Looks like you are well on your way. Bill.

laughlinfan 03-27-2015 06:40 AM

Voted! Good luck, Joshua! I am an RIT alum and live in Rochester, so if you end up there and need any info from a local, drop me a line!

Good luck!!! I voted.

egri 03-27-2015 08:05 AM

Good luck Josh--I voted for you.

It might be a good idea to bold your name, state and school in your original post. It makes it easier to find the pertinent information when going back and forth between the N54 and Hood pages.

pawpawdiv9 03-27-2015 08:39 AM

Just voted.
I majored in Business Management, which most parts was Accounting. I remember when we had to still write on notebook paper, and by quarter's end, laptops were just being issued in. And this was in the latter 90's. These days they are making ipads readily avalible for 8yr olds in school.
