1955 Topps Doubleheaders Stadiums

6 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,

I'm writing an article on the 1955 Topps Doubleheaders set and as some of you may know there are stadiums in the background of the cards. By putting together the cards you can make 6 different stadium scenes. I'm attempting to figure out which stadium is which, but struggling due to the few black and white photos that exist of these stadiums (from that particular time period). Does anyone know what any of the stadiums are or if there is a website that can help me? I've attached some pictures of the different scenes that I found in a previous thread.

Thanks,

Owen

I believe they are the three NY stadiums of the time.

Thank you! I thought the scoreboard on the 2nd and 3rd rows looked way too similar, I've had a look now and that seems to be Ebbets Field. I think the other stadiums are 1 and 4, with 5 and 6, can anyone else identify them?

Thanks for the help,

Owen

That's brilliant. I never noticed that. Great article idea!

There's been at least two major hobby articles on this over the years. The first was in a very early issue of Baseball Cards magazine (issue #10), the other is escaping me at the moment, maybe SMR? The latter article ID'd the stadiums while the former had a full color centerfold of all the cards in the set pieced together. Six panoramas but only three stadiums. I also covered the set on pp.102-106 of my book: https://archive.org/details/ModernGu...blishedCopy2.2

Big fan of this set...Wonder why the sky color went from yellow to orange to blue side by side on the one section . Everything else matches perfectly.

Don't know if this is available elsewhere on the web, but here is the BBC Oct. 84 Bill Bossert article for anyone's dining and dancing pleasure. Hope the scans are readable....maybe around +200%:).
