George C Miller, Oh My!!

Posted By: Matt
As I'm certain many saw, there was a lot of 18 raw, poor condition George Miller (R300) cards on ebay that ended today and went for $2,275.
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270184463373</a" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270184463373</a>

I understand this may be one of the largest collections ever offered, but it seems like it went very high to me. A Jimmy Fox in comparable (a bit better) condition recently sold on ebay for under $100.

Thoughts?

edited for spelling

Posted By: Bob
Matt- I guess the guy wanted to corner the market on Miller Dizzy Dean cards, buying 6 in poor condition. Other than that, I have no clue why they went so high.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Ten years ago I sold Dan McKee the 22 - George C Miller cards that I had. I think it was about 2/3 rds
of the set. Perhaps, Dan will chime in remember the number of cards. One aspect I remember well was
that he was very happy with the price I gave him.

TED Z

Posted By: Alan U
The woman selling these is selling her father-in-law's collection. I bought an E101 from her on ebay and have traded some e-mails with her. She's very nice and is going to auction all the cards, not sell them off of ebay. She has been selling other things on ebay for some time.

Apparently she has some T206's and other tobacco and caramel cards. Most of those I think she is going to get graded before selling. The e101 I bought was SGC. From the selection of non-sportscards she's been selling who knows what she has.

-Alan

Posted By: dan mckee
At that condition, they went insanely high. I have 4 complete sets uncancelled of the type I cards with cancelled Ivy Andrews cards. My 1 type II set is about 75% complete uncancelled. Ted sold me a large group years ago. Ted I can't remember a thing about the transaction, oh, that's right, you wouldn't take my check and I had to get Al Rosen to vouch for me. Too funny. Thanks to my good friend Al, Ted accepted my check at fort Washington. Dan.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
I checked my records, there were 22 cards in the Geo. C. Miller collection I sold you......it included Dean, Foxx,
Gehringer, Grove, Maranville, both Waner's, etc.....and they were certainly nicer than this 18 card lot.

It is funny....Dan recalls correctly, he had Rosen vouch for his $1000 check. It was at a time when a large check
"bounced" on me; and, I was very "gun-shy" about accepting checks. But, Dan still loves to "bust my chops" over
it....all these many years later.

Take care Dan, ole buddy and say hello to your Dad for me.

TED Z
