Dave, you have the magic touch. I also await hearing the story behind the find.

ChiefBenderForever 09-17-2009 12:56 PM

Wow can't believe those were in Fargo. Best thing to come out of there since Roger Maris.

The O'Neil in the Goodwin auction is no longer the only one in existence.

Must be pretty nice to be able to afford those things...

Beautiful cards indeed tho.

barrysloate 09-17-2009 02:39 PM

The entire collection is terrific, but I'm most impressed with the Police Gazette Mickey Welch. Looks like a new find to me, don't recognize that one at all.

FrankWakefield 09-17-2009 03:53 PM

Great stuff. Truly. With those as part of the journey, Fargo would be beautiful this time of year...

It just goes to show the doubters that there's still lots of stuff out there, some in the hands of lurkers here, some held by folks who might not be on line, some by folks who aren't aware of what high regard we here would have for stuff they have boxed in an attic.

Thanks for posting. Really like the look of that Clarkson... not the most valuable, but best looking to me.

OK. Bye Brad. I'm going to miss you, but only because I love non sequitors.

Jim VB 09-17-2009 04:49 PM

David,

Absolutely teriffic find! All I can say is, wow!

Joe_G. 09-17-2009 04:53 PM

Congrats Dave !

Fantastic collection. The mounts and team changes suggest they may all date to 1889. If only the Hanlon, Conway, Brouthers, Richardson, & Ganzel were one year earlier you'd have some nice Detroit cabinets. Beyond the team changes, the lack of a colored mount and the occassional Dog's Head also suggest 1889.

Very nice indeed.

2dueces 09-17-2009 04:57 PM

Wow.

Joe_G. 09-17-2009 04:57 PM

And about the Welsh Police Gazette, it's based off an 1886 Joseph Wood photo. Same photo was used to make his N167 card. Many of the Police Gazette cards are based on photos that date to 1886 & 1887. I believe Police Gazette cabinets were issued over several year period, but that's a good discussion for another thread.

sgbernard 09-17-2009 05:07 PM

Oh my goodness.

Beautiful cards... When you get a chance, though, can you hunt down another AWH Caramel find? I want to saturate the market and drive those prices down ;)

rman444 09-17-2009 05:09 PM

Joe - good observation. The N167, Four Base Hits, Kalamazoo Bats and G&B Gum issues all used the 1886 Joseph Wood Cabinet images.

<a href="http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i52/rman444/prewar/Joseph%20Wood%20Cabinets/?action=view&current=1886JosephWoodCabinetMickeyWe lchFro.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i52/rman444/prewar/Joseph%20Wood%20Cabinets/1886JosephWoodCabinetMickeyWelchFro.jpg" border="0" alt="1886 Joseph Wood Cabinet Mickey Welch Front"></a>

Joe_G. 09-17-2009 05:35 PM

And don't forget the Yum Yums. They have many of the 1886 photos from the Giants & Mets (all Joseph Wood photos). In the case of the Mets they use the Spotted Tie portraits but list the new team (Mets disbanded after 1887).

Frank, I agree. The image and Brouthers remind me of the DeLongs of nearly 50 years later.
