What to Make of this Auction???

Posted By: Dan Bretta
http://tinyurl.com/3c44j7

It came up in my search for "Nebraska baseball". First off I know this ball is not worth what the guy is asking, but I'm wondering if anyone can decipher what this ball actually is?

Is it a 1918 game used ball from the World Series? Autographed or are the players names just written on the ball? Did Ruth sign his name like that pre-NY Yankee days?

I have been in contact with the seller and he says this ball came from Ad Liska who was a former Major Leaguer from Nebraska and the ball was sold in 1982 in Dwight, NE which is where Liska was born.

Interesting ball...not worth that kind of money, but interesting.

Posted By: David Atkatz
The ball seems to be genuine. Carl Mays' inscription is in his hand, the other autographs look good, and that is a real c. 1918 or so Ruth.

Of course, the price is a bit absurd.

Posted By: howard
It's a cool piece if a tad overpriced. I suspect that the seller based his asking price on the outrageous prices that several recent HR balls have fetched. He probably sees this as at least as collectible as those balls and has priced it accordingly.
