1920 George Ruth signature

Have knowledge of a check signed by George Ruth from 1920, it is a check endorsed by Ruth, value? interest ?

Here is front of back of the check signed by George "Babe"Ruth from October 1920. The check was issued from Jack Conway who was Boston Record American boxing sports writer/business man/agent during the day. The check was purchased as part of a family estate.

I know that the experts, other than David, don't like to comment on Ruth signatures, so I will throw my two cents in, having no reputation to possibly muddy:

I think it is real. The odd 'r' in 'George', which is not typical of that period, or of Ruth's writing, can be found in his early signatures and I have no reason to think that they are all bad. If I'm right no one will say a word. If I'm wrong, someone will drool all over themselves at the opportunity to publish my ignorance here in the forum. So I learn something either way.

Scott <== so crucify me

Perfect early Ruth signature. Scott knows his stuff.

Incredible item & signature.

Wow

What's the value of an early check like that?

btcarfagno 02-03-2018 08:35 AM

I think it would be quite a bit higher than your run of the mill Ruth check. I haven't seen another signed George Ruth that I can recall. GH Ruth or Babe Ruth yes. George Ruth no. That different signature may be hotly contested for by some. You can even kind of tell that Ruth himself seems to have struggled a bit writing "George". The "Ruth" flows much better.

Good Points: It's one of those items that can go really high.
Thanks

My initial inclination on something this rare is to ask: "What is wrong with it?" and finding nothing, "How would a forger go about creating this?"

Glad David confirmed it was real - I would hate to think forgers were this good.

Congratulations.
