Autographs On A Ball
 

I ran across this today. With Chicago and not Cubs or White Sox identified, I found this strange and assumed it was some type of souvenir ball. Started looking at the names, assumed they were stamped on, and ran across Buck O'Neil, started to get curious, then Banks and Santo. Buck O'Neil was brought on in 1962 by the Cubs as one of the College Of Coaches. Due to the fading, I started to think it was not stamped. If anyone has seen a ball with this Spalding Logo and not Reach, for this timeframe, with a Chicago only stamp on it, I would love a picture of one. Also, let me know what you think of the autos, the pictures are tough due to fading of the signatures, but any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am seeing Ken Hubbs on there as well who tragically died in a plane crash in February, 1964 after winning the Rookie of the Year award in 1962.

I will leave it up to the experts but the ball and autographs look legit to me.

For what it's worth, I worked at Wrigley Field in 1977. I have a similar ball signed by most, if not all of the players. Mine is also a Spaulding Ball (Sewn in Haiti). The Chicago stamp is the same font but mine also says Cubs below (but far enough below that it could be the same stamp with poor centering on the example shown.

There were always boxes of these balls in the clubhouse for players to sign before and after games and during rain delays. Once the balls were filled with sigs they were sold at the stadium (Mine was a freebie). Unfortunately my ball has very few autographs of consequence featuring immortals such as Bill Madlock, Rick Monday and a rookie autograph of Bruce Sutter.

I would infer from this that the OP's ball contains legit authentic autographs. Mine is less faded though and easier to read. Looking at it for this post it is remarkable that virtually all of the signatures are quite legible (pre chicken scratch era).

Thanks for the responses so far, very helpful and informative. I found an example of a ball that sold by SIG Auctions that had the full stamp you mentioned Frank, so I took a closer look related to the centering issue from the photo I saw and your comment and what I believe I see is the upper portion of the C in Cubs is noticeable above the red stitching of the ball, so I am assuming this ball was poorly located when the stamp was put on the ball. Could not find Lou Brock on the ball, maybe one of the faded ones I can't really read. Thanks again for your feedback.
