Worst Season Ever by a Slugger?

Baltimore's Chris Davis is having what may become the all-time worst season by any 'established' power hitter.

Here are his slash numbers through 52 games:

.154/.234/.239/.474 with 4 homers and 75 strikeouts

This compares 'favorably' with Adam Dunn's full-season 'creation' in 2011:

.159/.292/.277/.569 with 11 homers and 177 strikeouts

Shades of Bobby Bonilla:

Baltimore is on the hook for four MORE Chris Davis seasons (AFTER this one) @ $23M/per.

They signed him right after he led the majors in homers twice in three years...and it's been downhill ever since.

Man, they could have gotten Chris Carter for about $22 Million less per year. :D

Yes, he's remarkably horrible.

But as an Orioles fan of nearly six decades...I'm not laughing. :(:cool:

Did you know that Bonilla still makes over $1mil per year from the Mets? And it's now nearly 20 years since he last played in the majors. His contract was set up so that he gets paid over $1 mil each year until 2035. Sweet deal, and forward thinking by him and his agent.

It was his wife (I believe his ex-wife now) who set that contract up because she didn't trust him not to blow it all, if he got it all at once.

Worked for the Mets at the time because they were up to their eyeballs in debt and helped them kick off salary into the future.

Ted Turner, or rather his GM, signed Al Hrabosky to a similarly long-term contract which I believe just recently ran out...of course, that was a few years prior to and quite a bit of money less than the Bonilla pact.

Yup. Here's some detail:

Terms were not disclosed but Hrabosky said the agreement includes deferred payments. It has been estimated those payments will total $5.9 million over 35 years.

Hrabosky indicated a verbal agreement with Braves owned Ted Turner allows for the colorful left-hander to work for Turner's WTBS cable television station as a sportscaster when his playing days are over.

Perhaps the "Mad Hungarian" wasn't quite so mad after all.

At this point they should consider sending him down to AA or AAA for a while to get himself right. Whatever they've tried so far to get him out of this funk clearly isn't working.
