Trump campaign selling autopenned hats
Not intended to start a political rant and I hope everyone here is professional enough to not wreck a thread by taking it in that direction.
Have seen a number of different ads from the Trump campaign offering "signed" Trump hats for donations such as in this ad for $183. Just an FYI that if you donate to get one of these "signed" hats, you will be receiving an autopenned version and not an authentic signature. There will be some people all over the country donating to get these and they likely won't know they are getting a fake, and a few of these are bound to make their way into the hobby purposefully or not. If you actually follow the links in the ads, and read the fine print, you will see where the campaign indicates they are autopenned. (Just noticed the same thing occuring with the "signed" Art of the Deal books they are offering as well.) http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...psy1hqviqo.png http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...pslpgog9gz.png http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...pszjz3d4dq.jpg |
same with the books. there are a few for sale on ebay now, being presented as authentic but they are all autopenned. You really have to dig deep in the ad to see it but that is how they are protecting themselves legally. Frankly, I do not understand why Mr. Trump could not sign them himself. I think its a great idea to raise money, but not under false pretenses.

The Trump autograph market will be forever clogged up now. |
I remember reading something about the majority of requested autos from politicians are autopenned (especially the PREZ) as they simply don't have the time to sign everything they get asked for.
Not as true for 18th century , but I know a lot of modern president autos are autopenned. |

I have never seen auto penned sigs advertised and sold before. This is certainly a new one. |

I have purchased "signed" books before through Barnes & Noble online and received autopen copies. (Sarah Palin). Also, Hillary Clinton used to do book "signings" in person at the store, but she wouldn't sign them there, only pass them out, and they were autopenned. (It Takes a Village books) Never, ever, trust modern political signed books without doing due dilligence. |

might be wrong tho as it might have been sold 2nd hand or by vendors and not directly by the candidate's PAC or wtvr |
Premier Collectibles has books by Trump and Hillary they they claim are hand signed and offer a guarantee. I had bought one of each at the beginning of the year. Am I wrong as I do not see anything there about autopenned?

Does the hat come with that ridiculous hair piece??? If so im buying one :D
|
Does the fake signature come with a fake degree from Trump U?

I said that presidents do not sell autopen stuff. I made no mention of candidates. |

The closest thing I've had is a Barbara Bush "autographed" book. Looked neat until I looked it up. Factory edition autopenned signature, and the key to it is that the autopenned version of the book has a different ISBN than the regular book.

I have worked on capital hill, the autopen machine is funny (assuming they are using the one we used in the senate, i am sure many people think their letter was really signed but its a machine that does it and takes a little longer than a real autograph.

Jake,
Auto pens have been around for approx 50 years and are well known amongst autograph collectors. It is not difficult to differentiate once you know what you are looking for. Most advanced autograph guys are not going to be fooled. That being said, yes there are a number of people out there that think they have a genuine signed item. |

Stamps are just as popular as the auto pen. Even Lawrence Taylor used a stamp. I have several of them I got returned through the mail. The difference is obvious and he's not even a politician.
|
Many athletes have used auto pens as well. Jack Nicklaus is quite common. Mickey Mantle even used one.

Do you have examples? |
I'll try to look. I got it in a collection and put it with the other bad stuff for reference.
