Happy to add a classic to the collection.

that's such a great image, and outstanding eye appeal for a 5...very nice pickup!

the 'stache 04-09-2016 04:45 AM

David, what am I missing on the Snider? I was just looking at a '54 Topps Aaron rookie Peter showed in he pickup thread on the pre-ward. It was a PSA 5.5. I know that scans can lessen the appearance of creases or wrinkles, but both his Aaron and your Snider look much better than the grades they received.

Michael, that is a gorgeous example of one of my all-time favorite cards. The '53 Bowman set, for me, is unparalleled in vintage, and that card is one of the best in the set. And those borders are really nice and white.

I don't know Bill. It looks great to me!

A couple very low dollar cards but I do think I got a deal/steal on the 1965 Batting leaders card?

jason.1969 04-09-2016 05:20 PM

And another very low dollar card. Nice that some enjoyable cards don't have to break the bank!

That Snider looks like a 7. There's probably a tiny wrinkle that can only be seen at the right angle in the right light.

jason.1969 04-09-2016 06:31 PM

Just picked up this PSA 2. Didn't realize how pricey Dean was till I started looking about 6 months ago. I liked the color and centering on this one, and for my budget I was okay with a small corner crease and some soft corners.

T.O. Card Expo pick ups today. Seen a lot of really nice cards and wished I had more money to play with!

Some deals were there for sure, but some were way overpriced as well!

Met a dealer, from Wisconsin, who exclusively used the CDN grading company, KSA for his grading???

His cards were immaculate, over the top good for Vintage and all were rated 8-10 from KSA, with most being 9's.
The prices he was asking was over the top as well and he said he never sells on E-Bay? Sure made me wonder why he exclusively used KSA?

Anyways, I spent a whopping $35.00 dollars and picked these up. This November, if I return, I will be sure to be better prepared with some prices in hand.

All in all, it was a great day spent with my Father. :)

Nice Aaron!

Love 5 HOFers on one card, but hate the floating heads design.

Not a big fan of the floating heads either, but I couldn't refuse the card considering the 5 HOF's like you mentioned.

I am liking these types of cards more and more as they are still fairly inexpensive considering some of the stars your able to pick up.

Just received this one today, which confirms, I am definitely sneaking away/wandering from my 52 Topps that I said I would exclusively collect. :o

It sure does.

If PSA is being overly tough grading, that will benefit people like me. If I can get a 5 or a 6 that looks like a 6 or a 7, that's a win win for me.

Absolutely. There are some great 6s and even 5s out there these days at a very steep discount to the higher grades.

Completely agree Bill. We buy the card, not the grade.

KCRfan1 04-12-2016 10:34 AM

David, that's a nice Lou Brock! HoFr at a fraction of Willie Mays!

Thanks guys, and I know a nice 5 or 6 would have been cheaper but I thought this was a nice looking 7 that was a small fraction of the price of the 8 that just sold.

Brock

I have mentioned this before, but look how unhappy Lou looks as a Cub :)

Managed to throw out a first pitch this year despite a recent partial leg amputation.

I always thought with the way he was looking off into space, he was just thinking what it would be like to be a Cardinal!

Sinker Slider 04-12-2016 08:40 PM

Thanks for the kind words on the Reese. I just love that card and keep taking it out to stare at it.

There's some amazing stuff being picked up here this month. Love that Aaron rook, the Mays is off the charts, and all the various Mantles look great, especially that 57.

I also agree with the comments about 5s and 6s being great value buys (and even more so as grading standards seem to get stricter). I picked up this Cepeda earlier this month, and since corners aren't something I get too excited about, to me it looks better than every 6 or 7 I saw while looking. I was more than happy to "settle" for the 5 and put the difference in cost to something else.

That's a killer Cepeda! Nice pick up. Love those clean mid-graders!

Making some headway with the 62's...another cool 60's set that I haven't tackled before -

And oddly enough this was the last card to complete my 1967 Topps set -

This is the second time I have completed a 67 set...and the last! I do think it is easier than the 66 set, but a challenge none the less..trying to find EX plus cards at decent prices is not easy...

Tom(mie ) Reynolds

John ... The Reynold card was discussed by Keith Olbermann in an SCD article. Either the original cards or maybe just the prototype cards had Tommie Reynolds. The card was changed to Tom for production but a large gap exists between Tom and Reynolds. Card(s) with Tommie are rare air ( maybe just prototype(s) ), but the regular card can be found fairly easily with very minor remnants of the exercised letters. I have one of the remnant cards and think there may be examples in the never ending variations thread :) I have never seen the Tommie version, but Olbermann seemed sure it exists, and maybe said he had or saw one

I took it and turned it several directions in the sunlight, and you were right! There is the smallest paper wrinkle, almost invisible, near the bottom on the right hand side.
