Bruce Jenner

Curious question. Now that Bruce Jenner is a female and goes by Caitlyn Jenner. Will autograph people still want his/her autograph because of what he/she did in the past. Or would people only collect the Bruce autograph. So pretty much will a Caitlyn Jenner auto be the same value or more or less as a Bruce auto.

I don't have an answer for you, but it is a good question...I would guess that both signatures will see an increase in demand for the moment.

I can see one of the card companies doing a dual cut card with both signatures.

I had the same thought. You can tell we're hobbyists when one of the first things that pops to mind is "What will this mean for the value of Jenner autographs signed as 'Bruce'?"

djson1 06-02-2015 11:06 PM

I guess you would have to think why they want Jenner's signature in the first place. Is it because one admires him as an Olympic gold medalist? Then "Bruce Jenner" would be worth more.....me thinks. If you admire Caitlyn for her/his bravery, etc....then maybe Caitlyn's signature would be more desired. But as a sports fan, I'd rather get "Bruce Jenner"'s signature.

don't really care about caitlyn the reality whore signature, i'd like a bruce jenner olympics gold medalist one tho.

I wonder if she will dot the letter i with a small heart like my daughter does.

One of the few Cait discussions on the internet that isn't rant-filled!

djson1 06-09-2015 10:51 PM

Just a late thought I had: Will he/she still sign stuff as "Bruce Jenner"? Or will everything be "Caitlyn" now?

jason.1969 06-10-2015 04:58 AM

I would bet on Cait. As I understand it, she feels like the Bruce phase of her life was living a lie.

So that means the gold medal is a lie too.

That's a much stronger conclusion than I'd be prepared to infer.

I don't think Cait is disowning her entire Bruce history. For instance, having loved her kids her kids or mourned the death of a friend would not feel like a lie. Rather, I think the part of her life she has moved past permanently is her male identity.

True, she competed as a male and against males in the Games. However, unlike Bonds/Clemens/A-Rod/McGwire, the training and effort and achievement were certainly real.

I wonder if he/she will sign "Bruce" upon request, like how Pete Rose will sign 'sorry I bet on baseball' or 'sorry I killed Kennedy' if you throw enough money at him.

jason.1969 06-10-2015 05:46 AM

I am betting no for two reasons. Superficially, she is simply not as hard up for cash as Charlie Hustle. But more importantly, even the request for a Bruce auto would feel like a rejection of who she is. I would avoid making the request.

djson1 06-10-2015 10:34 AM

So, from a hobby perspective: hold on to those "Bruce Jenner" autos as they have now become more collectible. Also, that opens the door to forgeries now.....great.

jason.1969 06-10-2015 10:41 AM

I agree. From a collecting standpoint (only), I would perhaps even regard a Bruce auto the way you would an athlete who just died.

I suspect you are correct. Bruce Jenner will be signing no more autographs.

How about Caitlyn "I used to be Bruce" Jenner for an extra inscription fee.
Of course, you can also expect the standard upcharge for game used equipment vs. a small flat. Bruce will no longer sign bats.... :)
