Help with good news/bad news value

Posted By: Despres Louis
A friend brought me cards his grandfather dug out of his attic. There are 43 Old Judge's and 42 Mayo Cut Plug's. The Mayo's include 9 Boston Red Sox and all the Football
series minus 2 (Morse & anonymous). The Old Judge cards have a few HOFer's. That was the good news. The bad news is all have been trimed and tacked to what looks like the side of an old crate. Old Judge on one side, the rest on the other. The condition really shoots down their worth, but I'm sure they do have some value. Any help as to what that value might be would be greatly appreciated. The scan of the Old Judge cards came out better than they appear as they are more faded. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Posted By: David Smith
I do not know the value of something like this but to me, it would be worth more as a whole instead of removing and selling individual cards. If this were mine, that is what I would do; keep it intact as is. This would be a great display piece for someone's collection or as a piece of folk art.

I would be interested in the piece as a whole but would need to know how much you were asking for it.

Thanks for the scans,

David

Posted By: tbob
I absolutely agree with David, leave it as a display piece. I think you would get more money that way and it would make for a nice display.

Posted By: Peter Thomas
I think they look great just the way they are. I would add a new backing to the backing that they are tacked to leaving the tacks and have the two framed and hang them on the wall. By the way I bought a quite a few PSA 8 t206's from you 5 or so years ago, mostly Boston players still have them thanks again - should have bought more.

Posted By: Scott Forrest
And build a vintage-looking frame to put them in. I know that's not the question, but that's what I would do with them. You could sell them that way through an auction house later, or maybe through someone like Seth (19th century). I would certainly bid on such a piece, but not on the cards individually - once those tacks are removed they are going to be a mess.
