September Autograph Pickup Thread

Purchased a few upgrades to my collection, as I always love official documents. Plus, picked up a Dinneen-just in case he gets in this year...

1951 Yankees team signed ball. Bad Joe D but a nice rookie year Mickey Mantle.

I know, I am always picking up Joe DiMaggio signatures, but I couldn't resist this one.
The postmark on the back of the signature is September 7, 1940. On that day, the Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-3, and Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams each hit home runs.

Never heard of Joe DiMaggio but awesome pick up because of the Ted Williams connection.;) Nice pick up on the Joe Torre bat also.

Elvis and Nick Adams

These two were close friends and were in Dallas together when Elvis did a show there, Oct 11, 1956.
They signed these album pages.

mrmopar 09-04-2015 06:27 PM

Nick didn't pick up the concept of the cursive "d" apparently.

Letter from Mickey Cochrane to his wife, sent during WWII. Oddly, two of these letters appeared in auctions in the same month! This one had the envelope, though.

jgmp123 09-05-2015 08:03 PM

Love that letter Ken!

egri 09-05-2015 08:33 PM

Picked up these three from another member here. First time I've ever seen a Hoak or Campos.

Not huge compared to most but I'm certainly glad to add it to my humble collection. A special thanks to Graig for being willing to honor my odd request.

Ramiro Cuevas Guzman

Letter dated May 4, 1953, three months before he did something 'big'. Anyone know? (not in the major leagues).

Did Guzman pitch a perfect game in the Mexican League?

Yes, he pitched their first one (August, 1953). I just stuck this on ebay, ending Sunday.

#232-Nice full name signature.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps5c0rw8aq.jpg

Also got to meet a potential future superstar Kris Bryant. FYI-We had pregame access to the Cubs and no-one was around when he signed this. Asked for a full name signature and politely told "no"

RelicSports 09-11-2015 01:53 PM

That's a beautiful Cuyler sig...always enjoyed his signature style. I have met Kris a couple times outside the ballpark and it seems like he always does the rushed sig now...except for his now employer "fanatics," which you can pay a premium for a more consistent sig. However, I think yours still looks really good...some are hard to even make out now.

A few nice ones in a big collection I just got.

gnaz01 09-11-2015 08:48 PM

Rich, that Maris and Cy are amazing!!!

MacDice 09-12-2015 12:26 PM

Just acquired from Republicaninmass....don't have it in hand but pretty excited to add it to my signed 1957 set. Already had a Giants team card signed by Hoyt Wilhlem and one by "Red" Schoendienst but this was unique enough that I couldn't pass on.

After his playing career, Carl Hubbell joined the Giants front office as farm director in 1944 and stayed with the team until 1977.

My signed book hunt at thrift shops and fleas added this one: Umm. I LIKE :)

Runscott 09-15-2015 11:23 PM

just got around to scanning the back of this 1924 'Baseball Magazine', picked up earlier this summer to go with the autograph it was created from.

GrayGhost 09-16-2015 07:31 AM

That piece is SUPER nice sir. Not just a nice Tyrus, but the association makes it real special

Runscott 09-16-2015 10:53 AM

Thanks Scott. It's yet another case of me being enamored with my inventory.

Hi Scott
No its a company called Historic Autographs. They have some killer signed tobacco combinationAtions but the packs are very expensive. I lucked out with this on the bay :)

Nothing rare or old but my wife obtained this for me while volunteering at a golf charity last week. I really like the montage, and have very fond memories of the result (still can't believe they didn't work around him and face Van Slyke with a lefty).

Original Charles Schulz drawing of Snoopy as a "dog of the cloth". Originally done by Schulz as a gift to a clergyman friend who in turn gave it to another clergyman upon the first one's passing.

As a big fan of the strip and of the dog, happy to add this to my collection.

I have been looking for one of these for a while now. Finally got a nice one. Funny thing is that 35 of the 36 people pictured signed it. The only one that didn't???

Bobby Doerr

GAH!! I know he still signed TTM but there is zero chance I am sending this to him. Is he well enough that he does any public appearances? Was he at the HOF induction ceremony last year??

Tom C

bender07 09-25-2015 09:59 AM

That's cool Tom. Bobby's 97 and doesn't attend HOF ceremonies any more.

I figured. Was hoping if he was still signing TTM that maybe he made it out there possibly. Oh well. Guess it'll remain 35 of 36.

Of all the guys not to have signed. Doerr?? He signed everything. Apparently still does at age 97 but I can't get this piece to him.

Dammit.

Fly to Junction City Oregon and ring his doorbell. I am being serious, I did this with Al Lopez back in 1997, he couldn't have been any nicer (although I did write first to let him know I was coming).

Klrdds 09-25-2015 11:48 AM

The piece is so nice that it would a shame to be short Doerr's signature to complete it. I would send a letter or call him and explain the situation and see if there is a good solution for you. You would be surprised how many older HoFers and ballplayers have/had their phone numbers listed. It would be worth a try in my opinion.

+1 I have heard that Mr. Doerr is an exceptionally accommodating signer....
