Me likee. Where'd you find that?

71buc 10-02-2014 09:21 PM

EBay... there were two others with the same design Dino Restilli and Vic Lombardi. I went with the Kiner. 1949 was his career year. Who says smoking is bad for you?:D

Runscott 10-02-2014 09:28 PM

Mike, those indentations are for resting cocktail weenies.

Ciggs or weenies, either would explain 22 career stolen bases six of which he swiped in 1949:D Strangely enough he had more career triples (39) than steals.

That's amazing. I have about one find like that each year - still waiting for 2014's.

I felt weird this morning, realizing I had bought a home plate.

eastonfalcon19 10-06-2014 04:14 PM

Scott, how are you going to display it?

Not sure, but it will be on the floor with some sort of covering. I have flat tight carpet, so I might create a batter's box next to it where I can leave my shoes :)

Runscott 10-11-2014 12:42 PM

Picked up these items this morning. First item is a Spalding J.W. Curtiss Mini bat, a 1963-64 Kelloggs giveaway baseball with Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, Brooks Robinson, Warren Spahn, Tommy Davis, and Dick Groat. I also picked up a nice vintage Krens Special bat.

Brockelman & Luckey Fall 2014 Auction

Anyone pick up anything from that? Were there any bargains there in anyone's mind?

As an avid collector of 3D cards in my youth, I only remember the "All-Time Greats" set coming out in Rold Gold Pretzel bags. I have been searching for the Kellogg's Danish box for years, and was thrilled to finally find one, along with the two Raisin Bran boxes. They were all unfolded, but I turned them into boxes for display purposes.

Why are there 3 October pickup threads?

My newest Lou.

1939 type 1 of Lou sitting on the steps of the dugout. Dated June 22nd 1939. I got it in a trade with another board member(Thanks Mark). It's not the greatest condition, but a very nice image nonetheless.

This just arrived. The girlfriend is going to love coming home to me watching the playoffs from behind a real home plate

sayhey24 10-15-2014 03:16 PM

What she's really going to love is you digging a pentagonal hole in the living room floor.

1936 Cincinnati Reds Jacket

1 Attachment(s)
Wonderful style that I have been looking for for some time. Manufactured by P. Goldsmith & Sons; Cincinnati, Ohio. The embroidered design on each sleeve is the same design found on the left breast of the "Palm Beach" uniforms also produced by Goldsmith for the 1936 Reds.

Quality of the photograph of the jacket does not do it justice...

Greg - when she got home and saw it...she loved it! She wants it to either stay on the coffee table, or to display it somewhere in the living room

Mark - that is, obviously, another great Gehrig image. Congratulations on the pick up. I'm not finding a 'Lou Gehrig Photo' section in the link area you have - if there isn't one there should be :)

Lordstan 10-16-2014 12:36 PM

Scott,
Thanks.
Here is the section where the Gehrig photos reside.

BTW, I had no idea home plate was that big. Pretty cool item.

Thanks Mark. Yeah, my only experience with home plates was installing them in softball fields, and they weren't this big. The box was huge and heavy as hell - the weight comes from an extra 2 inches below the dirt line, honeycomb filled with heavy chunks of dirt.

I highly recommend these - one of the coolest things I've ever picked up. Wish I had one from the Astrodome.

Found this awesome piece after it being missing for a year and a half. After my temporary move, it surfaced, and will be for sale soon. Not in best shape, esp back, but super nice.

1925 Christy Walsh Syndicate calendar page featuring Babe Ruth and Cobb. Thanks Al!

Lordstan 10-16-2014 08:43 PM

Jeff,
Great calendar. It reminded me of something I forgot to post along the same lines.

1928 Letter from the Christy Walsh Syndicate. Letter is to the Yankees asking to borrow Babe Ruth's white uniform. At the bottom are the printed autographs of all his clients. I also got the envelope it was sent in.

David Atkatz 10-16-2014 09:07 PM

Very interesting. It's the "white" uniform, and not the pinstriped uniform (as we'd refer to it today.) In those days there were just home whites and road greys. The details--pinstripes, etc.--were irrelevant.
