Damaged goods from ebayer

Posted By: S Gross
OK, this happened to my brother with a lithograph bought on ebay .... BUT, I'm going to explain the situation so that even "we" can understand:

"I" bought a "card" on ebay from a seller who had 100% positive with about 150 transactions. I bought it with a buy-it-now for $500. I was very happy with the card and the price. However, when I got the invoice, the seller wanted $100 (yes $100) for shipping (listing stated s/h based on final price). I emailed him (politely) and disagreed with his s/h. I explained a $500 card could be shipped priority fully insured for less than $20. I would gladly pay $25 for s/h/i. I got a pissy reply "accepting" $25 s/h/i.
So I paid my $525 with PAYPAL. When I received the card it was sent uninsured, loose in a #10 envelope, and low-and-behold, it was damaged (to a lose of about 50% value).

What should "I" do ??

Posted By: barrysloate
What was his explanation for asking $100 shipping? And yes, you are entitled to a full refund.

Posted By: Anthony S.
And if he drags his feet on the refund, point out that Ebay might be fascinated to learn that he's ducking their final value fees by using astronomical shipping fees to pad his bottom line.

Posted By: Anonymous
I'm at a loss as to why you are even asking. Clearly you need to get all your money back including the $25 shipping. Then neg him.

Posted By: Frank Wakefield
List the seller's name here.

Do nothing for the moment, bid on more of his stuff about to close, and win it, too.

Then, see if he can send that stuff ok. Hopefully he won't.

Now... full refund, neg him on all of the auctions, and zero star him.

Zero star the horse he rode in on, too...

Posted By: Paul D
I think that all of our correspondence with this jerk needs to be forwarded to the appropriate eBay watch dogs. I know a lot of people will say that eBay won't do anything; but I think, the whole $100 shipping thing; and then adding your actual experience, will get their attention, so hopefully this will not happen to any other collectors. Also, you must get a complete refund; it is an absolute moral imperative.

Good Luck with it all and keep on the good fight!!!!

Paul D.
