Did you win this STEVE GARVEY auction? I miss the days of being able to see who won.

Wondering if a member here won this auction and if so, do they know exactly what they just bought? I don't recognize the feedback count/characters eBay uses to hide the true identity of bidders now, as it doesn't appear to be a typical Steve Garvey bidder I am used to seeing on better items that come to auction. I'm just curious to know who won (as well as who the 2 underbidders were), as I'm impressed that 3 bidders were $200+ on this item and I don't recognize any of them.

I was extremely shocked at the final auction price though. When I first saw it, I was very excited that something unknown had come along, but after digging a little deeper and revisiting something I already owned, I figured out exactly what it was and where it comes from. I was preparing a blog entry for it, but was waiting for the listing to end, since I can't find squat on the item online otherwise.

I'll link to my blog entry once it is complete and posted, if anyone cards to read further.

Hi Curt,

Sorry I don’t know the answers to the questions you pose, but was interested in what the item is? Is it some type of cutout or just a sticker that went on one of the Mattel games? Seems like a good number of bidders and at a decent price; is there that many odd-ball Garvey collectors?!?

I have been able to determine the underbidder as a Garvey collector who is not as active on many of the Garvey listings, but will show up for obscure listings. I have not heard anything about who the other two are that each bid at least $200. Not trying to "out" anyone, simply wondering who is chasing this item.

Here is the blog entry I wrote.

Very cool read and you now have two Garvey variations of the sticker. I would think the bidders going over $200 didn’t know what it was and likely have never seen the sticker before. Now, they’ll be looking for the game (if they read your blog and/or are a member of these forums).

I read the blog too. Cool story. Not sure what you bid on the item but would you have been disappointed to discover you already had the item and money could have been spent elsewhere?

The timing worked out that I knew what the item was before I placed my bid, so I didn't have to line up a crazy high bid to try to win a mystery item. Had I not figured it all out ahead of time, I probably still would not have been anywhere near $200. I have regretted not going higher at the time for some things really unique, but sometimes you don't realize how difficult an item is until it is too late. I have spent more than I needed to on items as well for fear I would miss my chance, so it kind of washes out in the long run.

I honestly didn't expect to win with the amount I bid but it was an amount I could live with had I somehow won.

I have always been a bit of a hoarder of things I like. There are probably a lot of nice things I could own now instead of buying duplication of what I already own. I came to terms with that a long time ago though.
