What do you guys do to keep it interesting while working on your T206 set?
 

I have a smallish card budget, and I figure it will take me around 5 years to complete my T206 set. Focusing solely on one set for that long seems rather daunting to me, even though I love the set. I've started working on a few other sets, so that I have some variety. I've thrown around a few other ideas like breaking up the set into smaller checklists and focusing on parts of it at a time, but I'm not really sure about that.
Have you guys found any ways to keep it fun and interesting as you slowly pick up cards for your set? Thanks in advance!

I'm working on downsizing my collection. As I replace some cards with graded cards I find that I like to research online about the players. So much more info is out there than when I first put sets together. Dave.

I stop buying any t206 for 2 or 3 month and after that i start again for couple month to buy cards each week...and again i take 2 or 3 month of brake...

Now i am in a brake :) didnt buy any t206 cards since the shrinners show in boston in last april 12 ...i will probably start to buy cards again in july or august.

I'm at about 35 years, and not even halfway.

I collect a bunch of other stuff, so a few mini vacations along the way have kept things interesting.
Of course, I wish I'd bought a lot more back in the early 80's.

i like to collect tougher caramels and tobacco cards. it keeps my mind so entertained I don't even think about t206's anymore!

Hunting for printing errors.

I am down to about 25 left. I check the BST every day. I am also working on the 1955 Bowman Set, 1969 Topps Set and 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set so I try to get something as I feel I can afford. I love this Hobby!

T206 scrap/freaks.....rare backs....sov 460 , ab 350 nf and and a few other subsets.....man I'm addicted:o

I'm not currently working on any sets that are generally as widely available as T206s, but I have thought about how I would tackle the daunting task if I ever began a journey on the set and came up with the following thoughts;

Break it down into subset/smaller projects. I think by team is a pretty efficient way to break it down into manageable goals, by position is another option though I have not heard of many people doing it by position it might be an interesting way to break it down.

My other thought would be to set quite strict requirements on condition/grade for my set. I think this might keep the thrill of the hunt exciting as I search for cards that are VG with great centering for example.

Another final thought, there are groups/lots of T206s in most of the auction house auctions. Buying lots, picking out what you want to keep then selling or trading the remainders off especially in the B/S/T adds another layer of excitement to the journey I think as opposed to just obtaining cards.

I keep it interesting by collecting some of the memorabilia related to the T206 players. I have some bats, autographs, documents, checks, etc.

I always collect multiple sets, cards of interest and other items at the same time. I need the variety.

Subsets are always fun. I'm working on the old mill southern league subset and an entire back run.

I think I'll try to save up a little more than I usually do and go after some larger lots. It would be fun to go through them and keep the gd/vg cards for my set and sell off the rest.
I also think I'll do a little more research on the players whose cards I pick up. That adds another dimension to it, and I really haven't done much of that in awhile.
Also, I do search for cool printing errors and anomalies, but I think you guys get to them first because I never find any :(
And, if all else fails, I can just do this: :D

I started my T206 Collection about 4 months ago and am around 60 or so now. I doubt I'll ever get close to the entire set (minus the "big boys"). I'm probably in the minority, but I don't really like the Portraits so I've been concentrating on the posed or "action" cards. To keep it interesting, I've been trying to accompany some of my T206's with their counterpart T205's (or T207's) so that I have some bio and stat info for the player. I also recently started an E121 set. When I don't have a lot of collecting funds, I have an ongoing collection of 1961-present Topps All-Star Rookie cards (you know, the ones with the Trophy icon). I can pick up a lot of those on the cheap and keep up to date with the current issues. I also look for all kind of Pirate Type cards and HOFers and Stars from Topps 1953-56. So, I keep pretty busy.
