Simple t206 question...

but have been wondering about for awhile. I am sure you all can set me straight.

Where did they get the images for all the cards? Did the artist design it after an image or was it based straight on a drawing? This applies to all cards and sets not just t206's.

Probably a real simple question, but looking up alot of the players on the cards I own, there are no known (at least google known) photographic images of the said player.

So, I guess the question is, where did the artist who designed the plate get the all the images of the minor leaguers/Southern from?

Thanks.

while i do not who made the pictures i have heard someone refer to the t206 art, because i and many others have noticed that hughie jennings has the same pose on the t206 as the t3 if i am recalling correctly, as a side note you might get better replies if in the title you change it to say t206 artwork help. you might ask or look on t206.org i think. hope i have helped in a small way

Here you see the origins of the images from the photos they were lifted from....

one thing i noticed was that the team emblems were added onto the cards, they are not on the original artwork

In 2004, MastroNet Auctions had a group of photographs taken by Louis Van Oeyen. One of the photos is of Sam Crawford and the image is identical to his T206 throwing version.

If anyone has the book "A portrait of Baseball photography", it is on page 252.

Original Photo

I was once fortunate enough to view a collection which included the original photo used for the T206 Wagner along with a PSA 4 example of the card. I suspect photos existed as the basis for all the cards at one point with the exception of the Spike Shannon card. That was drawn by the 3 year old son of the American Tobacco Company.
