Posted By: warshawlaw
The cards are quite rare; only a handful annually are offered for sale in any venue. This was a nice lot because it included some popular IBHOF members (Dixon, Jackson) and the key card of the set, Corbett v. Sullivan.

There is a growing recognition that prewar boxing cards are every bit as nice as prewar baseball cards but overall much harder to find. To give you some idea, I have tracked 24 total cards from this set selling over the last six months. The set has 25 cards. The 24 that sold have included only 15 of the cards in the set. A whole set of these hasn't changed hands publicly in years.

A good number of collectors of prewar baseball are stepping into the boxing field as baseball becomes too expensive. Let's face it: the Corbett v. Sullivan card that fetched over $3,000 is comparable to any of the marquee baseball cards of the 19th century that sell for 10x that price or more.

There are also some who see boxing as an undervalued investment relative to contemporaneous baseball cards. More than one baseball card collector has expressed that view to me.

Posted By: Scott Gross
Could not agree more with Adam. Any coresponding Baseball type card, easy 10X. In fact these could have gone higher (and will in near future). Great cards of the famous fighters AND FIGHTS of the day.

But, for a change, the s/h/i can be agrued as concerningly low:

"Buyer pays .75 for shipping. Insurance is optional and usually(unless the postcard sells for more that $50.00) $1.35."
