Here is the card with personalized holder that originally sold in 2016:

Here is memory lane auction that ends tonight:

https://memorylaneinc.com/site/bids/...e?itemid=46027

SAME CERT # - New holder

Was the last sale from the time of "market inflation"?

Yeah, 2016 was in the bubble period. That's a massive falloff for that card. If you don't have a login to Heritage, it was a $130,000 sale. And no new ones graded 10 in the past two years, so it's not a population issue.

Maybe being from the Slusser Collection mattered a lot.

And I'm sorry, but who needs this flowery prose?

The brilliant portrait Clemente pose exhibits virtually perfect centering, situated between four dazzling white borders. A gleaming surface, sparkling hues, razor sharp corner tips and immaculate verso all serve as perfect compliments to the well-merited assessment. Unquestionably, this card appears as if it has just been pulled from a 1961 Topps wax pack, unquestionably destined to become the centerpiece attraction of one of the finest PSA Registered sets extant!

I believe some of the people able and willing to spend that much appreciate a bit of a "show" language wise. Sort of like the menu in a fancy restaurant.

Perhaps that's why the results I generally got on Ebay were a bit under what others got, my descriptions were more like "this is this card and this is the grade I give it. See the picture"

Sort of the difference between "grass fed organic beef from special cows grilled on a special metal grill and flavored with unicorn tears" And "I gots Steaks! Big ones too!"

Unquestionably they need a thesaurus.

Anyone using "verso" (except maybe in reference to a 19th century item) should be deal with severely. Almost as bad as poppage.

Was going to bid on it myself today until I plotted the graph and worked out all the math and realized at this rate I should be able to pick it up for just a cool $5k when it comes around again in 2020 . . .

But an 86k drop. - whew!!

Interesting the 1963 same story 1 of 2 sold in same 2016 heritage auction for 45k and dropped to only 37k last night.

The things that make you go hmmm.

LOL, makes me feel a little inadequate seeing a 61' Clemente selling for more then my first house.

I actually feel a little better seeing it only sold for more then my first new car, the 2nd time around.

:D
