Frankford Yellowjackets

The challenge for the board is to post a collectable item that relates to the Frankford Yellowjackets...

This is a great, great topic. Although it has been hashed and rehashed by researchers for decades, it's still interesting.

I believe the data suggests it is very possible Feathers accomplished the feat and have no problem with him getting the credit. Glad the article kinda agrees :D

What I've been able to find are programs, photos, ticket stubs, championship watch and watch fob (which I was outbid on years ago on eBay and again in Mastro or some other auction), a fan pin, and autographs:

Thanks Mike! Great items - I figured this would be up your alley. The Yellowjackets were definitely one of the teams of the decade!

I like the ticket to the 26 Bears game which was a “championship” game - both teams had one loss late in the season - a Bears win would’ve most likely given the Bears the title. And nice Hap Moran photo - that would’ve made a good football card :).

About ten to fifteen years ago the Frankford Historical Society (which was tough at that time to get in touch with) sold a really neat notebook on the team.

I call it a notebook, it was a black binder with about 100 pages of newspaper articles on the team. It had accounts of most games plus some features on players, etc.. At that time it was the most info you could find on the team in one place. I think it sold for around $18.00 but as I said, getting them to answer the phone was tough way back then.

They do have a website now and their phone number is 215-743-6030

Great stuff, Mike! Here's all I've got.

Thanks Mike, I'll give this a try - I'd love to see that.

Jeff, great add! I had no idea about Stockton.

No Yellowjackets here, only Redjackets. They did eventually merge in to one team though and took the NFL out of Minnesota until 1961. Darn Yellowjackets.

Nice photo. The Owatonna Thunderbolt and former Gopher AA.

Did anyone see Creed? One of the gyms was located in Frankford. I had always heard it described as a "suburb" of Philadelphia, but now that I've looked into it, that doesn't seem to be the case at all. It seems calling it a neighborhood would be more accurate.

I heard about this "scrapbook" from my father, his dad played for Frankford AA in the late teens and very early 20's, information is very scarce from this time frame.. I've searched high and low for this book, the Frankford historical society, the Frankford library branch and no luck... Guess I now I know why! I can't believe they sold it!! And for less then 20 bucks! Can I ask how you know about the scrapbook?

TanksAndSpartans 01-26-2016 02:43 PM

Good timing on this post - mine just arrived in the mail yesterday - so far I've only had time to page through it - I was actually hoping there may be some play by play accounts, but it's not looking like it - reminds me a lot of the book "The Scrapbook History of Pro Football" except the newspaper articles are all on the same team.

I purchased a copy from the Greg Kordic sale in the late 90's. Greg had and has rebuilt what I believe to be the largest football book collection in existence.

In the late 1990's he sold it off and then like many of us he realized how much he missed it. He attacked it with a vengeance and it is amazing. The college portion which is his passion was highlighted last September on the Big Ten Treasure Hunter.

I sold my copy around 2005 to a dealer in Knoxville, Tennessee who then sold it on eBay. I do remember the cover had a simple photo copy of an old program cover glued to it.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Mike, yep - I just called the number you posted - they knew exactly what I was asking for - I suspect they wouldn't mind selling a few more. Thanks for this info - this is a great find - I wish other historical societies had these.
