Questions About Scorecards
 

I've recently been looking at some baseball scorecards from the 1940s & 50s. Any info about reprints would be appreciated. Also, I've seen a few with holes on the side as if they were in a ring binder. Did they ever originally come with these holes, or were they put there by a collector? Thanks.

I have hundreds of scorecards and really don't see that many reprints. Most scorecards do not have holes. If they do they were most likely put there by a collector or they were perhaps bound in a book at one time.

The holes were put there by a collector if they are ring-binder sized holes (here in UK we call these "punch holes" though not sure if same term applies across the pond). Much smaller holes can be evident that the scorecards were professionally bound.

There are reprints (some well regarded such as Robert Opie World Series collection, others less so) although tend to be for programs rather than simply scorecards. I could be wrong but, instinctively, I wouldn't imagine there'd be many reprints of 40s/50s scorecards, other than for important / one-off games, as it's usually possible to pick up the originals for relatively small amounts.

Scored scorecards are currently the focus of my collecting, and I agree with both Jeff and our new friend from "across the pond".

Just curious Doug, why scored over un-scored? I think I know the answer but am just curious as to your preference on that point.

I am also mulling over buying a 1921 Red Sox vs White Sox and a 1933 Yankees vs Red Sox scorecards. Both are unscored and show age but are very nice. VG ish. Initially after seeing the 1921, I was thinking much like Skooter above ...."I wonder if any reprints exist"..... but they both just feel and look right if you know what I mean.

Any thoughts as to approximate value of these 2 un-scored items? Thanks! mike
