Posted By: <b>Scott</b><p>As part of my growing vintage collection, I have been looking at what card(s) I would get for this famous Cubs infield trio--obviously the T202 gets all 3 in one card. I was wondering what other combinations of this threesome collectors have (either together--2 or 3 of them together on one card--or 3 separate cards not necessarily the same type that show nicely together). <br /><br />As a Sox fan, it pains me to spend money on anything Cubbies but I guess an exception can be made for the old guys.<br /><br />

Posted By: <b>Steve M.</b><p>the T206, especially the Portraits, show nicely together. To find all three on one card you have to be looking at the Hammon postcards to find them all as Cubs. The Grignons would be another nice grouping as they are all Cubs on those postcards as well.

Posted By: <b>Scott M.</b><p>Hi Robert,<br /><br />Unfortunately, the Evers W555 card ends pretty much where the photo does.<br /><br />I've seen several W555s, as you've mentioned, with the lines and extra large borders but have never seen any that might have a portion of another card showing.<br /><br />If there are any images like that out there, I would certainly welcome to see them posted in another thread (or emailed to me) as it would give some much needed insight into the issue.<br /><br />Scott

Posted By: <b>robert a</b><p>Interesting Bill.<br /><br />I've never noticed those designs, but that adds to the case (in my opinion) that there was only one player on each box. <br /><br />I'm hoping that a larger portion of a box will eventually be found, but I'm sure there was some kind of ad on the box that said "cut here" or something that prompted all of them to be cut immediately after purchase.<br /><br />By the way, looks like tinker and evers are E98 poses and chance is E94.<br /><br />Rob

Posted By: <b>quan</b><p>i haven't researched them much or look at them carefully because i always thought they were cut-outs of some box, but seeing them auctioned off the last few years i've seen all the e93 poses represented, and both of the e97 poses of irv "cy" young. i'm guessing you can probably find all the e97 subjects? not so sure about e94s and e98s....

Posted By: <b>MINE'S MINT</b><p>though i do enjoy the look of the t205 combination.. corresponding backgrounds giving a sense of uniformaty.. i believe the triple folder is a highly underrated card.. to my knowledge its the only card that displays all three players prominatly.. focusing only on the members of the double play combination.. unlike a chicago cubs pc which displays the entire team.. not to mention that in the card pictured above they are shown in thier famed order.. plus, with todays market encapsulating every hofer under the sun.. you can avoid the shuffle of 3 holders and stick to the one.. unless you go with o'seedys method and keep em raw in the same screwdown as i have in the past..<br /><br /><br /><br />psa/dna authenticated signature -&gt; Richard M.

Posted By: <b>Dave Rey</b><p>I'm going to agree that Johnny Evers is a qualified HOF member, but to say that anybody that disagrees is nuts is a stretch.<br /><br />His qualifications put him near the bottom border of Hall of Famers. His offensive stats aren't going to look impressive, given the context of their compilation -- that being the dead ball era. He was above the league norm in pretty much every offensive category during his career, was an good defensive keystone sacker, was a good post-season performer for three Series winners and was the MVP in 1914.<br /><br />His inclusion isn't a complete stretch like Joe Tinker's or a moderate stretch like Frank Chance's.<br /><br />The poem, the MVP and his playing on the three dominant Cubs teams from 1906-08 are the factors that make him a HOFer when a nearly identically valuable contemporary player like Claude Ritchey isn't really considered -- or even remembered for that matter...<br /><br />It wouldn't be unreasonable to argue that since several second basemen of equal or better overall value aren't in the Hall, Evers is trading on his fame from the poem and his good fortune of playing on those dominant Cubs teams.
