Trophy Card Trivia Question

Postwar Baseball Cards (pre-1980): 9 guys had Rookie Trophy cards and appeared on League Leader card(s)... in the same set. You are on the clock. Go.

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2018 12:26 PM

70 Reggie has to be one.

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2018 12:33 PM

65 Oliva, I think he has a 63 trophy because it's his first full card, and he likely is on batting leaders.

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2018 12:38 PM

Fred Lynn had a super rookie year so I will guess 76 Lynn as well.

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2018 12:40 PM

Along the same lines, Firdrych, so 77 Fidrych. Now up to 80 in my mind and that's all I got.

Damn. OK how about Gary Peters he had a big start to his career, I guess it would be 64 Topps?

That leaders card itself has to be the answer to some leaders card trivia question, 5 pitchers, none of whom had anything resembling a great career, I wonder if any of them won more than 150 games, I guess I could look it up. I mean most of the leaders cards have one or more HOF or at least clear stars. But Chance, Peters, Bunker, Pizarro and Wickersham, ouch.

Kind of the opposite of this one:

Got 6 of the 9 so far:
1964 Gary Peters
1965 Wally Bunker
1965 Rico Carty
1965 Tony Oliva
1976 Fred Lynn
1977 Mark Fidrych

three left.

Your picture doesn't show up (at least on the computer I'm using). I'm curious as to what card this is (Guess Clemente Mays, Aaron 1966)?

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2018 03:57 PM

I'll guess Jim Gentile who had that big HR year early in his career. Not sure if the card would be 61 or 62. I'll say 62.

Gentile not the answer, though a good guess. Had there been an RBI Leader card in 1961 set, Gentile would have been on it.

Correct. 1 guy left. The remaining guy I thought was the toughest (who woulda thunk this guy was on a leader card)?

Barely missed being on the ERA Leader card in '69, but Kooz never appeared on a leader card (69 Kooz my all time favorite card though).

Yikes. One of the great nicknames though, even if it was sort of obvious. Two excellent seasons then not much.
