Topps 1990 Debut X Card

Up until 1994 I collected any Topps baseball card or set listed in the SCD Standard Catalog of Baseball cards. That included the 3 Topps Debut sets issued from 1990 to 1992. These sets featured the debut date of rookies from 1989 to 1991. The 1990 set ( 1989 Debuts) was 150 cards and two CLs. The 91 set was 169 cards and 2 CLs, and the 92 set was 192 cards and 2 CLs. All of the sets sell cheap on ebay

But I picked up this item....whatever it is, after reading the note below on a Blog discussing 1990 oddities. The scans show the front and back of the one I picked up

This is the 2nd year set, 1991 ( 1990 Debuts)

Very cool. Where did you find this at? I have seen far more Thomas NNOF and George H.W. Bush cards listed on ebay than one of these 'X' cards. Other then being scarce, do you have any idea as to how many may have been released?

X Card

I bought it recently on ebay. I do not think it has much hobby recognition....maybe rightfully so :). I only found it because it was listed on ebay as a variation. I knew about it only from reading a blog on variations and oddities. All I know about it is in the blog piece I posted

That was my blog article and yeah, I've only seen a handful of them pop up since posting it. I am fairly certain that they are corner cards or placeholders from the uncut sheets that were meant to be pulled before boxing.

I've been tempted to purchase a case but I would be severely disappointed if I didn't find one, there is very little of interest for me in that set.

I will say that I do enjoy seeing the oddball, one-and-only cardboard appearances in these sets.
