Broken scanner, funny story (Concluded)

This morning...

A couple days ago my wife decided to put a picture of her mother on top of the shelf-case that holds the majority of my collection in it in my man cave. So I decided to wait for her weekly meeting with church this morning and I would move it somewhere a little more appropriate...I dropped it on the edge of our new scanner and spider-webbed the glass inside...vacuumed out alright though.

Question: Is scanner glass just plain old glass and should I be able to find a way to replace this rather simply? Any help would be more than appreciated, and yes I found another spot for the picture...

Thank God you didn't break your mother-in-law or you might be wearing the broken scanner as a hat.

I think I would take this as an omen that you should sell me your 1914 CJ McGraw (lol)

How did your wife get into your man cave???? Does she know the combination or have a key?

I agree with Frank......maybe you should just be happy that the picture of your mother in-law didn't break.

I don't actually know the answer to your question, but if scanners are like any other low to moderately priced consumer electronic product, they are not meant to be repaired (at least at a reasonable cost).

Barry:

She has to know how to navigate the man cave to find the "book" with all the cards needed to finish current projects...this led to my e145 tinker. So in the end, she is welcome, just not encouraged to loiter tooo much...:)

Im very thankful for the picture not breaking though...the wife is home and has somehow talked hewlitt packard into helping us for free in her true southern fashion. She is still on the phone and giving me the thumbs up...she a little better working with people than myself.

I think we both know this McGraw is destined for WA...Id put in a scan but...

Well, at least customer service is alive and kicking in some businesses (lol)

End result - The customer service rep was looking for a loop hole to help us and he found it. We purchased it as a floor model, which they took or word to be true (and it is), the glass would have been out thru inordinate use? This equates to h/p sending us a free printer, to our home free of shipping. We are sending our broke printer directly back with a prepaid label...all at no cost and a 40-minute phone conversation.

Ive learned an important lesson today...whenever I have a problem with ebay, an auction house or particular seller Im letting my wife call them and will go get her a shamrock shake from mickey dees!:)

I have a list of places for her to call for me and I'll throw in an order of fries.

I don't see the loop hole, you broke it. Seems like you should pay for it.

Mike - I worded that bad...my wife told him we broke it. The rep wrote it up as faulty glass and took a return b/c it was within the 90-day warranty. The loop hole was the "floor model"...they were unable to replace just the glass. Yes, we got lucky.
