RIP Toby Keith:

I'm not much of a country music fan, but he was great. When his good friend and bandmate & basketball great, Wayman Tisdale died early from cancer, he came with 'Cryin' For Me'...which gets me every time.

I listened to it a few more times yesterday, then needed 'Red Solo Cup' to cheer me up...got me LMAO!!

Thanks Toby...you will be missed.

The born legend already gone but I know all is good work still flow in our memories

I was fortunate enough to attend two of his concerts. Great performer with many excellent songs. Another one gone too soon.

I had never heard of Toby Keith until I heard "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue". Then he became one of my favorites. Love guy who is unapologetically American, but also not a race monger or something like that.

His style of country music wasn't to my tastes and I sided with Robert Earl Keen in their feud.

But, I live in the same town as Keith and drive by his home every day on my way to work. The man was deeply involved in the community and charitable works and deserves much credit for that. And, in an observation that is sure to blow a few minds, the only time I ever saw a sign for a political candidate on his property, they were local Democrats. I don't say that to inject politics into yet another thread here, but to point out that there is a depth and complexity to the man that may not have come across in his music.

Not a country music fan at all, but he was something different. I came to the party late in 2002 when I first heard Courtesy of the Red White and Blue. Probably would have signed up if i were young enough LOL

Was that pre-08? Still, if he thought the local guys/people were good, I can understand him supporting them. Both sides have their undesirables (especially Federally) but some of the locals, and depending on the size of the community, can be more caring and understanding of local concerns.

Toby Keith left the Democratic party in 2008.

In October 2008, Keith told CMT that he had left the Democratic Party and he re-registered as an independent. "My party that I've been affiliated with all these years doesn't stand for anything that I stand for anymore", he said. "They've lost any sensibility that they had, and they've allowed all the kooks in.

I thought Steven Colbert gave a great tribute to Toby Keith the other night on his show. I will link it below.

At the end of the day it's about Human connection. Something that is sadly becoming lost as the years go by. I knew a few of Toby Keith's songs, mostly from hearing them in bars. I can't say I listened to him frequently, but cancer sucks and I'm sorry that another person was taken by it.

No. More recent than that. To be sure, Oklahoma Democrats are centrists and have a fair amount in common with the country club Republicans. Also, I never recall having seen any political signs on Keith's property for either state-wide or national candidates.

Why is this the post that all new scammers use for their singular post when joining? It makes no sense.

Yeah ....

This thread is like flypaper, it’s an easy way to catch them and ban them. ETA: I noticed that they are all born on January 1, 1970, there are two more on this thread including this guy that need to be banished.

Leon 03-14-2024 03:00 PM

This is actually kind of a crazy thread. It's like a mosquito light zapper....

Toby Keith was as great singer..RIP...

Posters of #3 and #13 should probably be banned. It's a little messed up the spammers chose an RIP thread. I wonder what in the algorithm is choosing this thread...

Apparently these guys have moved on from ole Toby to Zelle, with a ChatGPT copy & paste no less.
