Are there any rookie cards that are disappointing to you?

For any reason, not a good photograph, not the team the player is known for, etc. ?

Just an example, being an Orioles fan and Frank Robinson fan it always annoyed me that his rookie card was with Cincinnati. Same goes for Maris. I’ve always thought that if he were in pinstripes on his 1959 card and if that was somehow his rookie card it would be one of the great rookies of all time. Instead of course he’s a rookie in ‘58 playing with Cleveland.

Am I the only one psycho enough to worry about stuff like this?

All the multiplayer ones bum me out. And I know it's a year past our era cutoff, but I was really pissed at Fleer in 1981 for spelling Fernando wrong.

Maris

Maris is not a Yankee on his 1959 card either. Maris first appears on a Topps card as a yankee in the 1960 Topps set.

I like it that Lou Brock is frowning in his first card as a Cub and smiling in all his Cardinals cards.

And Ozzie Smith does not look nearly as good in a Padre uniform as in all his Cardinals cards

Al, I don't think anyone could look good in one of those Padre uniforms.:)

No, I know, but just imagine that ‘59 card, everything is perfect about that card except he’s not in pinstripes. I know it’s a huge stretch but I’ve always wished that would have been his rookie and he was a rook with the yanks.

There was a time I felt the same way about the multi player rookies but they’ve grown on me over the years. Something about the player not being important enough at the time to even warrant his own card only to, in some cases become a HOF player. Makes it kinda cool.

I never liked what we referred to in the '90's as the "pea-head" cards, like the 1963 Pete Rose rookie. Even before he fell into disfavor with the powers that be due to his gambling, I preferred and bought a 1964 PSA 7 instead.

Best wishes,

Larry

Along those lines, I admit I would have loved a 53 Topps Hank Aaron just so he could have a Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta card. (And yes, I realize he never played for Boston.)

The Rose rookie is truly awful, only post 50s rookie card I won't own.
