1906 Baseball Team Photo

3 Attachment(s)
Came across this 1906 team photo while going through a packed box in my home office. I picked this up along with an imperial cabinet of the 1897 Des Moines team. The DM cabinet hangs on the wall but since I couldn't I'd the photo I tucked it away.

Does anyone know if this is a Univ of Iowa? Only reason I say 1906 is due to writing on back. Hate to say, but I can't make out what it says.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks
Craig

Can't speak to its pedigree - I don't know a Type 1 from a hot rock - but I can tell you that is a University of Iowa team, probably 1907. The same picture can be found in the 1908 Hawkeye yearbook with verbiage that primarily refers to the 1907 season. The book was probably printed before the 1908 baseball season began. I have seen old yearbooks that sometimes are a couple of years out-of-date as regards team photos but the references to the season "last year" trump that, so the "1906" note is a stumper. None of the foregoing probably made much sense but my best guess is 1907 U of Iowa varsity baseball team.

Thanks so much David.

I believe Maury Kent is the 4th person from the left top row. He pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers (Superbas) 1912-13.

Sharp eye to pick out a relatively obscure MLer, Don. Here are the baseball pages from the 1908 yearbook. It appears Kent was the Man on the Iowa team.

ETA: I just noticed that the schedule on the fifth page refers to the 1906 season. So much for my earlier blather about it being 1907. These old yearbooks can be very confusing when it comes to dates. 1906 it is.

That's what the writing on the back says, "Dupl." I always look at posts like this and try and decipher myself before scrolling down. Did the same this time only to scroll down and see that John beat me to it.
