I have bid on Probstein stuff on eBay. Have two right now, but have never won a single one. I get sniped at the end everytime.

I win plenty of Probstein auctions at amazing prices. It's because I got after Mauer and no one else does :)

I won't bid their auctions for the reasons that have been detailed in countless threads. It's not uncommon for one of their cards to pop up on my searches... I move on.

Probstein

I bid on his auctions like any other. Put in my snipe and walk away. I do the same for all sellers and sleep well.

leave emotions at the door, bid, and walk away. Done. This is also why I tend to not win anything:cool:

That is the super rare error variation. Too bad the shiller er I mean poor gentleman that retracted his bid did not know that.

+1 Bid what you are willing to pay then walk away

I have bought several HOF high grade football RCs from him and for all his suspicious moves I still get them cheaper than anyone with a BIN on eBay.

Please remember our "name" rule listed at the top of every page. Giving any opinion of a company or person or getting into heated debates/debates requires a full name. thanks

My strategy is to bid on Probstein lots and then lose on a snipe bid to Mike Denero, have them mark up the card 30% on a BIN, send me two years of automated emails taunting me with the card until I give in and pull the trigger.

I didn't say it was a winning strategy. ;)

That happens because the smart bidders only snipe PWCC or Probstein auctions. Bidding is asking for trouble.

Absolutely no insult meant, just a friendly warning.

I've actually sold some cards to Mike Denero for fire sale prices, only to see the card sell one week later with a nice markup. Why do these buyer continually pay these huge markups instead of bidding on the auction like everyone else? Is it his installment plan that appeals to people?

I have learned my lesson. No offense taken. I bid what I will honestly pay and if I win it fantastic, if not, oh well. With three boys under 9 years old at my house, I just don't have time to babysit an auction.

+1. Don't get caught up in the "you can't have it, it's mine" mindset, and bring on an all-out bidding war. I did that once fairly recently, and although I won a pretty good card, regretted it almost immediately.

Regards,

Larry

+1...This topic has absolutely been beat to death, and then some, and then some more. If you like the card, place a max bid, and move on, period. Ebay obviously loves the guy so nothing is going to happen pertaining all of the accusations vented here and other forums. This topic quite frankly has consumed some board members, just my take....

my point of this thread...which was ignored by most responders was that i thought it was funny he was selling fishing lures...and that despite the fact his 60 mantle had pics of willie mays there were still bids!
