Ruth Autograph on a Golf Scorecard - Thoughts?

1 Attachment(s)
This item belongs to a friend of a friend who is not a collector. I think the autograph is good but I know next to nothing about autos so I'm turning to you guys! The date penciled on the card seems to make sense as I have found an article saying that Ruth was golfing on that day at the Longshore Country Club.

Inn at Long shore-longshore country club

Ruth did in fact spend a few weeks in Westport CT & most certainly hit the links several times during that span...

Here are a few interesting links that include information about your friends item:

A ball that is currently in the love of the game auction that i personalized to the Babe's Friend, who put him up for the two week period

The autograph looks good to me. I like the flow and speed of the signature. This along with putting Ruth in that area during that time frame would make me feel pretty comfortable with this item. Nice item

Yeah, the fact that I can place Ruth there at this time is a big plus for me. Of course, it would be nice to have his signature on something baseball related but this is a nice signature at a much more affordable price.

Any other opinions on authenticity?

I saw it on ebay, but, $4300.00 seems a bit high

Can you provide the link to the eBay auction? Thanks.

Those two look like different golf cards.

billyb 02-02-2014 10:32 PM

Cfern,
They look the same to me. The numbers and letters are in identical spots. Unless it is a copy, that is impossible to duplicate.

They are definitely different golf scorecards.

One is dated 1933 and the other is dated 1946. One scorecard has green printing ink (1946); the other is all black printing ink (1933), FWIW...
They are also signed in different spots on the scorecard.

Is this a prank? They are obviously different cards.

Cards

Both different... I have seen the one posted somewhere else, just not sure where...

Was wondering that too lol. These are not even close!

IronHorse2130 02-03-2014 12:17 PM

Yes, these are two very different cards. With that settled;) are there any more opinions on the autograph?

toyman55 02-03-2014 03:07 PM

You are right, I missed that, they are different.

I haven't seen any with the bottom of the 'B' rounded like that. I would be interested to hear opinions from someone more familiar with variations in his signature.
