Posted By: Joe_G.
You've got a problem John, have you ever passed on a Corcoran before?

I have a minute to kill, so here's a little history.

Corcoran has two poses originally issued in 1887 within the common leading "0" numbered series with Indianapolis. Both poses were re-issued a 2nd time in 1887 under the type 2 "0" numbered series (card number, name, position, and team in script at bottom with smaller restyled OJ banner/box). Then a third variation with his new London team surfaced in 1888 (again both poses).

So John, you not only have all 6 variations (as shown in your avatar), but you are collecting dups. How many Corcoran cards do you have? Are you finding the "a" variation is easier than "b" is easier than "c"?

Happy collecting?
Joe Gonsowski

Posted By: Joe_G.
I hope Leon and other board members don't mind me bumping this to the top (ahead of 1st October Pickups), but I need to give John props for showing how collectable OJs can be. Just look at how many copies of the same pose John has accumulated. It all comes down to perseverance. Granted, not all players/poses were created equally, but a majority of the issue is very collectable. You just have to hang in there and the card(s) you desire will show up.

So John, I guess you would agree that the 1887 type 1 cards are a but easuer than 1887 type 2 being easier than the 1888 examples. Not by a landslide, but seems to follow the general trend. Also interesting to see some variation within the three variations of each pose. For example, the type 2 cards don't always show the banner in the same location on the card etc. I'm sure you can pick out other variations amongst your cards when viewed closely in person.

Gotta luv the set.
Posted By: john/z28jd
The London versions are definitely harder to find but that could partly be because team collectors have only 2 choices when it comes to a London card, and Pettee(the other London player) is pretty tough to find.It took me well over a year to find one for him and the only other London Pettee ive seen was way overpriced but sold anyway.

The scans also show the 2nd pose, hands at shoulder, has a much lighter picture comparitively.Im wondering if that has something to do with it being harder to find than the other, about 2:1 ratio from what ive seen.Could they have stopped making it because of poor picture quality or less people actually saved it because of that reason? Chances are we will never know why but its interesting to think about. Also makes me wonder if theres any other player which this also occurs, but you would need to see a large sample group together at the same time to notice something like that.
