I thought it would be interesting to look at the growth of each of these companies in regards to this specific set. Granted these numbers are likely a bit inflated with cracks and resubmissions etc. I grabbed the 2006 info from the thread, and the 2008 SGC pop. info from their site today. Of the total cards graded by PSA and SGC as of 2 years ago, PSA had roughly 77% to SGC with 23%. Of those graded in the past two years, PSA had 62% to SGC's 38%. So there is a shift with more cards going to SGC now.<br /><br />2.) The percentage of SGC high-end (84 and above) cards has increased 211% in two years (387 to 818) while PSA high-end (7 and above) has increased only 30% (5211 vs. 6789). So this shows more high-end cards are either going to SGC or getting re-slabbed by them.<br /><br />3.) Lower grade (1-2) cards have increased roughly 300%, while higher-end cards (PSA 6 / SGC 80 and above) have increased at less than 200%. So more low-end cards are being sent in for grading, and the higher-end cards already have been slabbed.<br /><br />Scott<br />

The data shows increases during the past two years (for PSA and SGC combined) of:<br /><br />* 82% in the total graded T206 population<br />* 46% in the EX-MT and above sub-population<br />* 36% in the NM and above sub-population<br /><br />It is impossible to know to what degree these figures are inflated due to re-submits and cross-overs, but in any event those are surprisingly large increases. Hasn't professional grading been around for over 15 years now? And still the whole population nearly doubled in just the past 2 years? This suggests to me that there are still <i>very</i> large populations of raw cards out there yet to be graded, even at the high end.<br /><br />It would be interesting to take a snapshot like this of these populations once every year or so, to get a feeling for the trend in the rates at which raw cards are finding their way into holders in the various grades. If these rates are not leveling off over time, we can expect to see large increases in graded populations for many years to come.<br /><br />

So there is a shift with more cards going to SGC now."<br /><br />One slight correction, the split in the last two years is SGC (42%) and PSA (58%). Will have to remember this statistic the next time a poster cautions a T206 newbie that the difference in the number of slabs between the two companies approaches infinity. Because of this fact, they would be lucky to even find an SGC slab for sale.
