Favorite 70s Basketball Set

Hi, I am primarily a vintage baseball card collector. But, I do some basketball sets, too. I have had a 1969/70 Tall Boy Set, and a partial 1970/71 Tall Boy Set.

Looking to build another set from the 70s. Just wondering what others feel is the most attractive and favorite set from the 70s decade.

I know the 1971 and 1972 sets are popular, but I have some experience with both, and am leaning toward the 1976 Topps Postcard size set given its relatively small number of cards needed to complete and the unique design and size.

If someone has asked this of members in the past among, point me to it since I don't want to be redundant with my question.

You can buy very nice Nrmt+ 1976 sets online and in most auctions. Definitely cheaper to buy the entire set than piece it together.

1971 is a nice set and less expensive than 1972, after that the value falls off pretty quickly. Centering on both of those early sets varies greatly, so a nice centered set does display and hold it's value nicely.

I think 75' has some of the best action photography of the decade and 72' though expensive to complete is my favorite design to show the decade in a glance. Significant historical design like the 72' Topps Baseball.

Easy, 1971 with the trio stickers. Went nuts buying (and shoplifting ) these as a snot nose 9 year old. Have close to 5 sets of each.

The laker cards from this year pop with color, see attached.

71-72-75, all faves but 1975 has my heart, and the ABA at its height. Can't beat that.

Got this out of the Topps Vault, the original photo with hand tinting to make McAdoo's card:

Fleer Harlem Globetrotters. I remember buying the packs from the icecream truck during the summer of 1971 or 1972.

I liked the 75 set but those backs are hard to read. 76 is nice and different. How about 80-81 which is different but historic still.

There's advantages & disadvantages to every set mentioned, so it depends on your perspective:

1969-70 has lots of NBA rookies
1971 has Rick Barry rookie
1972 has Dr. J rookie
1971-75 has ABA players
1976 is nice & large, good for autographs
etc,...
etc,...
etc,...

I put together that Fleer Globetrotters Cocoa Puffs set because I vague recall getting a few out of cereal boxes back in the day. Finished it at the 2019 National with a lucky find of the dozen or so I needed. They're fun cards
