1985 Topps McGwire USA Olympic pack pull!
 

So I gambled, bought an unopened 1985 Topps rack pack on eBay with the McGwire card showing on the back for $37. Luckily, of all the cards on top of it that were slightly off center, this one seemed mint. Carefully took it out of the pack and threw it in a card saver and sent it to PSA the next day. Just got the grading notification earlier. Not a bad gamble/luck I'd say! Gem Mint 10! I see them going for anywhere between $300-600 on eBay and some listed higher (one listed now for $899 with 13 watchers). What's the average going rate for one of these nowadays? Wondering if I should keep it and add to the collection or sell it and pick up some prime cards like Derek Jeter rookie cards (the 1994 SP foil) or a bunch of limited number 2015 Jeter refractors.

Also bought a 1984 Donruss rack pack and a 1984 Topps rack pack with the Mattingly rookie showing, but those didn't grade as high as I wanted.

Surprised it got a 10 with the slight tilt/off-center, or maybe that's just your photos.

You're a jerk. It's stories like this that won't let me keep packs unopened. It's like a sirens song singing "there could be a psa 10 RC" and you just made it worse. :)

Congrats! It's not easy to get a 10 on that card.

It's just the photos I think. I'll post the cards when they arrive Monday. Just saw an eBay auction close on the same card, same grade. Bidding ended at $679. Very close to the PSA estimated value of $700.

I've heard a lot of people talking recently about how they thought that card wasn't worth anything anymore and that after the whole steroids scandal that this card won't be worth anything. You guys think this is a card that will always retain its value and will continue to increase over time (as someone stated above, an important card) or will eventually dwindle.

Opened another 4 rack packs today and this is what I got. Yes, another McGwire. And if my math is correct, it's 55/45 centered so should still meet PSAs gem mint 10 requirements.

I've been tracking the "9's" and "10's" over the last year and seen "10's" go anywhere from about $650 to $1,000, although there seems to be some softening lately. Congrats on a great buy--McGwire, regardless of the 'roids scandal, is the most iconic player an entire generation of fans saw, considering how far, hard and often (more frequently than the Babe) he went deep. I was in the left field upper deck at old Tiger Stadium for batting practice when the Cards came in for an interleague series in '99, and Big Mac was nothing short of awesome!. Four over the left field roof, including one in left center, and his balls, rather than descending somewhat softly and gently like those of other players hitting them into the upper deck, were coming at us like they were shot out of a cannon!
